Guest guest
I've been on Prednisone for 1 year now. My doctor said it was supposed to be " temporary " until I could get on a non-steroid medication. Well so far that hasn't happened. I have, however, gained 80 pounds and developed purple streaks all around my legs and abdomen. I did some research and it sounds a lot like Cushings. Has anyone else had trouble getting off Prednisone and does anyone else have symptoms of Cushings? Thanks for being here! Jeannie

Guest guest
Is Cushing's disease when you get the "moon-face" that can be a result of prednisone? or is it something other than that? I got the moon-face when I was on very high doses of prednisone. I am on 5 mg/daily for a long time now and don't have it.
Guest guest
Jeannie, I am so sorry you are having to contend not only with the symptoms of RA but with prednisone " fallout " as well. One of my children took high dose steroids for four years for ulcerative colitis and is presently being weaned over a year. It has not been a picnic. The weight gain, stretch marks and other undesirable effects do happen as a result of steroid use at times. The best course of action is to write down your questions.......or even write them on the computer, print them out, and hand them to your doctor when he sees you. You do need to ask whether an additional " steroid sparing " drug could be ordered which would allow you to begin a steroid wean. Your doctor should be the one to ask about potential Cushing's disease,or other concerns although steroid use alone often causes what you describe. I hope this is a little help to you and that you find a combination of meds soon that allows you to take a very minimal dose of steroid which allows you to return to your former self. Guest guest
I have no idea what Cushing's is but I did have trouble getting off Prednisone. I started at 40 mg and with Arava got down to aobut 25 mg but then hit a road bloock. We switched to Methotrexate and I got down to 15 mg but then we added Remicade and slowly increased it to 6 mg/kg and finally I was able to get off Prednisone. That took about a year and a half. Different people take different times to get off Prednisone and some never make it completely off. If your doctor is not treating you aggressively enough perhaps you should change doctors. God bless. > > From: " chafarm123 " <chafarm@...> > Date: 2004/10/16 Sat PM 07:44:57 GMT > Rheumatoid Arthritis > Subject: Re: Prednisone and Cushings? > > Jeannie, I am so sorry you are having to contend not only with the symptoms of RA but with prednisone " fallout " as well.
