Hi Joanie - I have constant " noise " in my ears, sometimes loud, sometimes not so loud; like something is controlling a sound volume in my head! My doctor says tinitis, and has suggested I take ginger, which I began last week. He said it will take 3 weeks or so before I notice any difference......I can't wait. I've had this for quite a while. Don't know if this relates to what your experiencing, but maybe........ The ear thing is the new symptom and I was >wondering if anyone else experiences this.I saw the doc a few weeks ago and >he said my ears appeared as though I had chronic ear infections as a >child...which I didn't.At that point my ears weren't bothering me though. My >cousin has lupus and her doc found her ears appear the same way and she does >get this same sensation.Anyone know what the cause is or what can be >done. Thanks in advance. > >Joanie > >---------------------------
Guest guest
Hi Joanie, Firstly I guess you know that the *critters* just love it when you fly, they thrive on it and that could be why your flaring now. As for the ears, yes, I do get what you describe but only mildly, not at all as bad as yours sounds. I did have lots of ear infections for which I was given massive amounts of antibiotics which is very possibly why all my troubles started:-(( Sorry I don't have a remedy and as mine comes and goes I just put up with it. I have another strange symptom with my ears and that is that they seem to have something to do with my temperature control (thyroid?). If I get really hot (the hot and bothered sort) if I put cold water on my ears I cool down.......now is that weird....... or is that weird???!! <grin> Likewise I need to keep them covered to stay warm. Gosh the things we confess to on this group that no one else gets to hear about <big grin> Hope you're feeling better real soon<warm hug> hugs, lisbeth >From: Nad4735@... >Hi everyone.I have a new symptom that I was wondering if anyone had also.I >just took a trip to Ireland last week for my grandmothers funeral.6 hour >flight...did me in.I am flaring like crazy this week.I am having chills, >joint pain, terrible headaches and ear pressure...sounds like I have a sea >shell up to me ear constantly. > >Joanie >
Guest guest
Hi Joanie, Could your ear problem be from the flight? I often have trouble with my ears like that after flying. Chris. Hi everyone.I have a new symptom that I was wondering if anyone had also.I just took a trip to Ireland last week for my grandmothers funeral.6 hour flight...did me in.I am flaring like crazy this week.I am having chills, joint pain, terrible headaches and ear pressure...sounds like I have a sea shell up to me ear constantly. The ear thing is the new symptom and I was wondering if anyone else experiences this.I saw the doc a few weeks ago and he said my ears appeared as though I had chronic ear infections as a child...which I didn't.At that point my ears weren't bothering me though. My cousin has lupus and her doc found her ears appear the same way and she does get this same sensation.Anyone know what the cause is or what can be done. Thanks in advance. Guest guest
And that would make sense per Nicolson's radio show article which Liz G was so kind to post. Great article. I have RA, but I always got this same reaction after flying, with awful ear infections sometimes, and others, just the feeling that I had an infection without the signs. The antibiotics seem to be clearing it up, slowly but surely. Minocin caused so bad a reaction there, I couldn't keep on taking it. I had a lot of ear trouble too, but almost none as a child, it developed along with the rest of my health problems, which eventually became apparent as RA. I have heard it suggested that maybe being given antibiotics for ear infections as a kid might drive the infection into a latent form lurking around in there. Rehumatic diseases can cause changes in the connective tissues of the ear too, so maybe that is part of the equation as well. Take care, and I hope you feel better soon. Guest guest
One of the reasons flying makes us sicker is that mycoplasmas grow faster when depleted of oxygen. So the loss of good levels of oxygen on long plane flights makes us sicker. You can take baths of epsom salts and hydrogen peroxide to help oxigenate your tissues. Does anyone on the list have the recipe Nicolson gives for the amts of each? Of course, hyperbaric oxygen therapy would be nice too, but it is too expensive. a Carnes > From: MHOLMES@... Guest guest
Hi --I''ve had what I think is tinitis for a long time, too. Gets pretty noisy at times!! I was just wondering what you are doing with ginger? Thanks, Patti
Guest guest
I have tinnitus in one ear also. It has nothing to do with the arthritis though. Its nerve damage from loud noise.

Am taking 550mg once a day. Doc said it would be 4 weeks or so before I noticed a change. My doctor is really big on alternatives - end of the month he is returning to India where he studies with a pretty important swami! And, to reply to 's post - I don't think the tinitis has anything to do with the RA, either. Possibly it is the result of nerve damage, but I have not been exposed to noises loud enough, or long enough, for that to be the cause. I have, on occasion, had inner-ear imbalance - probably due to sinus infections.....according to my doc. Anyway - I'm willing to give the ginger a try - can't hurt, and it is a very gentle treatment! Be well, > >---------------------------
Guest guest
Some of the mycoplasma research shows that air pressure changes (like air travel) cause mycoplasma infections to worsen...( think this is from Nicholson's site) -Mike- rheumatic question for lupies From: Nad4735@... Guest guest
I've been taking 500 mg ginger 3 times a day for over two years now. I find it really helpful for pain and inflammation. It's also great for your stomach. Dr. Weil recommends ginger. ---- > how do you take the ginger (what form) and how much? > > > Hi - I'm taking 550mg (1x day) ginger root in cap form. It's from The Vitamin Shoppe. I'm sure there are better sources, but my doctor said these are absolutely fine.............. >--
