Guest guest
Jolly here, reporting in about left hip replacement done six and a half years ago: How do you like the results? Now I do but it took three years for the pain to leave Are you glad you did it?. Yes How old were you when you had it done ?50 How long have you had them? see above How long did it take to recover? 3 years Has your pain gone away after replacement? completely but I had myofascial release and crainal-saccrol manipulation that erased the pain. Is your replacement put in with cement or the kind the bone grows into? I have the kind that doesn't have screws. I don't know anything further than that. Do you have any regrets? Wish I'd known about myofascial release and crainal-saccorol manipulation before I had the surgery because I had that three years ago and before I had that done I was sure I'd have to have the right hip replaced and now it is fine. Please give any advise that you can. see above Tell me your story and why you had to have it done. same reason everyone does: pain and mobility problems ---------------------------
Guest guest
My answers are imbedded in your message. rheumatic Hip Replacement Surgery >From: Steve Jordan <sjord@...> > > Hi Gang, I wanted to know; if any one here has had hip replacement >surgery. I'm really starting to consider this surgery since I'm feeling >strong enough to do it and I just found out from my insurance that since >I've spent so much money this year I' m almost close to my deductible. >If I have both of them done before the year is up I will only pay >$1,008.00 out of pocket after that the remainder will be covered 100%. >What a deal!!! I think I should go for it. Please help me with any info >available. > Thanks SOOOOO much , Yoly > How do you like the results? Very much. My left hip replacement feels like my own hip. > Are you glad you did it?. Definitely. It allowed me to walk normally again, sit, climb stairs etc.without pain. > How old were you when you had it done ? 44. > How long have you had them? Since Sept, 1994. Just one hip has been done. > How long did it take to recover? 2 months. Mine was uncemented, which meant I was parital weight-bearing for about 6 or 7 weeks. Due to my RA and this restriction, I was in the acute care hospital for 10 days and a rehab hospital for the rest of the time (Sept. 1 to Oct. 24). > Has your pain gone away after replacement? Yes. The day after surgery I had less pain than I did before surgery. > Is your replacement put in with cement or the kind the bone grows >into? Uncemented--the bone growns into it. > Do you have any regrets? None. > Please give any advise that you can. Make sure you follow all the directions and do the therapy every day. Also be sure the surgeon you choose is an expert is hip replacement and has done a lot of them. Try to set aside at least two units of your own blood, 4 if possible. I needed 4, the number they usually recommend, but due to low hemoglobin was able to give only 2 before surgery. The surgeon knew I didnt want transfusions, so even though my hemoglobin was 76 after surgery, he gave me a week to get up over 80. He said if I did that, he wouldn't insist on the transfusions even though I'd be very weak for a couple of months; if I hadn't, I would have had to have the other two units because a low blood count can interfere with healing. > Tell me your story and why you had to have it done. There's not much more to tell. My hip was extremely painful: I couldn't do stairs, it was unstable, I couldn't walk far at all before I would have terrible spasms around my hip. If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to answer them. > > > > >---------------------------
