Guest guest
Hi Bill, no he wasn't, he actually blacked out we think as he doesn't really remember falling only the crunching sound as he hit the concrete! The worst thing was as he landed he knocked over a bucket of water and of course with any head wounds there is always a lot of blood, mix that with a bucket of water and WOW what a mess! I raced up inside for the first aid box (it's got his name engraved on it) and by the time I got back the blood was everywhere and I then had Jess holding pressure bandages on 2 big cuts and the blood was still coming and that's when I found the big hole in his head, the other cuts were superficial. I'm getting pretty good at this " anything broken " routine now :-) Glad to see that Mitch is dating a " mature " woman and keeping out of harms reach. is still producing huge amounts of hormones........what the heck is she going to be like when she goes through puberty? Hoping Charlotte is still doing well, give her a big hug please. Guest guest
Bill and Charlotte, Thank you Bill, for the response. I do exercise the best I can. I have never heard of the breathing exercises and yes, I do take more shallow breaths. As I read your email I took some deep breaths to see what you were talking about. It is really strange you mentioned it. I have to make myself breath right sometime. I have sleep apnea also. I have a prescription to get a monitor but have not yet because of the expense. I had the nuclear scan last week. They gave me a scramble egg, bread and orange juice. After 2 hours of having x-rays every 15 minutes, the food was still in my stomach. The technician showed me. I see the doctor this week or next Ken has the appt. written down I forgot to ask him. He gave me a prescription called Librax. The pharmacist old me that this med. slows the stomach down. I am not taking it till I find out why he ordered this medication. I already take Previcid, which slows acid down so I don't know why he ordered this medication. He told me I will need a tube to empty out my stomach, and a tube to empty out my intestine. I don't know how in the world I am going to get nourishment, if I empty out what I eat or drink? Oh well, It makes me quiver when I think about the whole thing. Thank you for responding. I really appreciate it :0) Much love, prayers and hugs to all. Guest guest
Bill, I understand what you mean about the supplements I take. I will have them looked more closely and take a copy of the ingredients itemized to my doctor, hopefully he can sort thru this and have a dietitian look at it. I have opted to very small portions of food a couple bites a few hours apart along with the supplements. I do take the NOW by the way, with a banana because I like the flavor of a banana shake ...I mix with fat free plus milk. I know I have to help myself with much exercise and breathing exercises. I have to push my self and do the right thing to help prolong things as healthy a way as possible. I can't depend on the doctors fully, when they are not familiar with MSA I am not taking the LIbrax. I looked it up and there are too many precautions of drug interaction. I take the Previcid Thank you for your comments about Librax and thank for trying to help me in the right direction. God Bless Happy Thanksgiving with love and hugs to you both Ken and Donna
Guest guest
Donna, A surgeon, even a neuro-surgeon may not be familiar with MSA. Everything I read about MSA, however, stresses as much exercise as YOU can tolerate (within reason). Our neurologist stresses that this does not have to be strenous aerobic exercise. The most important exercise is the range of motion to keep movement. The next important is the deep breathing exercises - if you read the messages this morning diminished lung capacity is a symptom of MSA and doing the deep breathing can help that because it is extending the range of motion of your lungs. The deep breathing exercise may also help food move through your digestive system. These are exercises you can do laying in bed. Or even sitting in a chair. They do not require violent exercise. Walking is good exercise if you can do it, but jogging is not good for most MSA patients. Exercise classes in a swimming pool may be good for MSA patients - it is good in most cases for arthritis patients. Doing a little exercise many times a day is much better than no exercise for MSA patients. Any exercise that causes you pain means it is time to slow down or stop for MSA patients. However, doing no exercise at all will tend to put you in bed for the rest of your life. MSA will try to put your body into the fetal position - all curled up. I have even attached a board to the bottom of the bed so Charlotte can put her toes against it and push several times a day to try to keep them straight. Don't over do exercise - but do exercise. Guest guest
Bill, I understand what you are talking about. I exercise a great deal, the doctor was talking about getting a trainer to lift weights, run, and do very strenuous exercise. I told him I can excretes but not to the extent he is talking about. He told me I was being argumentative. I told him he does not understand about how MSA works and he rebuked me and said he knew about everything, my disease was not special. I cannot kick box or lift weights or run, I can't keep my balance that much without falling. We were in two different directions. I do exercise Bill, and thanks to you I now know how much I should breathe exercise. It has helped me. I have read the importance of exercising for the last 2 years. I have even had a home pt for about a year till I got a little better and now I am not bedridden. Thank you for your reminders though, they are appreciated. The Doctor was being bery rude and unkind in his evaluation. Love and hugs Donna
Guest guest
Donna, Unfortunately there are rude people in every walk of life. Ignore them and walk away. There are other doctors. Guest guest
Did Charlotte have trouble swallowing or reflux or both? I am not yet having trouble swallowing but liquids they come back by way of reflux, solids don't seem to -----Original Message-----From: Werre Sent: Tuesday, November 28, 2000 9:52 PMTo: shydrageregroupsSubject: Re: Another Mark Whittaker UpdateJudy, That was the culpret with Charlotte in 1988. They pinpointed swallowing liquids and placed the PEG at that time. She still eats almost anything she wants, but gets almost all liquids and meds through the tube. That saves her strength for eating and we allow her to have as much as possible what she wants (junk) by mouth. I then make up what she lacks with supplementary feeding via the tube. The tube is not that bad to take care of. It sounds a lot more gross than it is. ) Take care, Bill and Charlotte -------------------------------------------------------------------- Fmwhit@... wrote: Hi All, Thanks each and every one of you for your thoughts and prayers. Mark is still in ICU, still has a temp of 100, still sounds pretty croupy, but did manage to sit up in a chair for an hour today, did get a meal for the first time tonight (pureed, of course), and the dx at this time is "aspiration pneumonia". His heart does not seem to be the problem but his careless eating and drinking may be the culprit. Needless to say, we will be on the pureed food plan once he gets home. Guest guest
Sherry, Charlotte has problems with both swallowing and reflux. Her swallowing is reasonably good at this point, but speech is awful. ) She does practice eating more than speaking correctly ) It does take her longer to eat these days also, but I think that is more of a problem of getting the food to her mouth. She has not had any problems with swallowing in over a month (coughing, etc) and I have not found leftover food in her mouth in over a year. She takes Prevacid or Prilosec for the reflux. They both work well for her. Take care, Bill and Charlotte ----------------------------------------------------------- Sherilyn Sherry wrote: Did Charlotte have trouble swallowing or reflux or both? Guest guest
Hi Bill Oh dear, oh dear, I have to say it again!!! ) You were right. We do cross two bridges to get to Brizzie!! One at Coomera and one at Beenleigh. They are on four lane highways which is probably why I hadn't noticed!!!! Not always that observant and we don't go to Brizzie much. Probably the last time was over a year ago. Well that's my excuse and I am sticking to it! Thought I had better let you know so you wouldn't worry all over Christmas about it ) Great chatting. Hope it is not too long before we do it again. Off to 's shortly if we can drag ourselves out into the heat!! Love to both from Anne The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen nor touched but are felt in the heart. Guest guest
Anne, When you get back from 's, I found (I hope) a better map (one is awful). One shows a huge bay or inlet between you and Brizzy the other just shows a riiver. I can't get the name of the river from either. But I'll get a good map online and check it out. I found a map earlier that showed me where Fordy and lived, almost to the street. Here we have www.mapquest.com which will take you right down to the house almost. Glad we could all chat last night, it was fun. That group will probably chat anytime we feel like setting it up. ) Maybe New Years morning (Oops afternoon) you can wish us all a Happy New year. Tell all Merry Christmas from us. Hugs from Bill and Charlotte -------------------------------- Pledger wrote: > Hi Bill > > Oh dear, oh dear, I have to say it again!!! ) You were right. Guest guest
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen nor touched but are felt in the heart. Helen Keller Hi Bill I tried to find a map on the site I sent you. Didn't have much luck, but didn't have much time to look. Got home from 's very tired. There is no huge inlet or bay!!! Definitely ) There is one past Brizzie to the north. The river is aply named Brisbane river. We had a great time as always at and s. Only prob was the heat! It is usually cooler up on the mountain. Not this year. We spent the morning out on the deck which is covered and watched the gauge rising. By 11.00am it was 37 deg C. Not usually having that kind of heat up there so they don't have air-conditioning. Oh phew it was hot. We veged out more than usual. Everyone was to hot to do much. Even the young set went to bed for a nap after the lunches. Each day we had big storms around 6.00pm which was good because it cooled it down nicely. So the evenings outside were lovely. I still managed to have my madatory dance!! ) Got some great pics some of which I will send on when I get them developed. 's husband bought me a tiara!!!! Said I was the Christmas Queen!!! Oh gee he was wonderful, as was everyone. Although nothing was actually bought up accept by Lorriane, everyone that knows just stood on their heads to give me a great time. They sure suceeded! One pic will make you laugh when I send it!! ) Hope you had a very happy Christmas, Much love from Anne and Tony to you both > When you get back from 's, I found (I hope) a better map (one is awful).
