Hi, . How's the first knee coming along? (Am I right, you had the other knee done a while back?)

Jean

Hi all.........left knee surgery is scheduled for June 5, and I have discussed possible alternatives to the pain drug Vicodin, which played hell with my stomach after the first surgery. Tramadol (brand name Ultram) was suggested. I've browsed the net and found lots of information on this drug, but nothing quite like hearing from those who've had first-hand experience! So, if anyone has tried this drug I would appreciate hearing from them.......negative or positive results.

Thanx and be well.........

Re: rheumatic drug info

Hi, . How's the first knee coming along? (Am I right, you had the other knee done a while back?)Hi Jean........thanks for asking. Right knee is joint-pain free when I stand on it! Still some residual pain from surgery - doctor said I can expect that for about 6 months. Still cannot do much walking, as the left knee is almost as bad as the right was before surgery. Am looking forward to this next operation with bated breath - I know what to expect this time, and that ain't necessarily a good thing!! Just kidding...I prefer knowing. Anyway.....post-op isn't going to be fun. I imagine I'm going to be in a whole world of hurt getting these muscles I haven't used correctly in sooo long functioning again. But, the results will be worth it. At least it's summer, so I won't have to worry about dealing with classes (last class was last nigt).

Be well,

That's great, !

You'll be a new woman by the time school starts this fall! I have used Ultram for arthritis pain, and I did fine with it, but have never used it for anything like post-surgical pain.

This reminds me, I remember some news reports from a couple years back--they found that taking a dose of pain med pre-op significantly reduced the amount of pain post-op. Has this become standard procedure since then?
