Guest guest
Hello! I've had CU for 23 years and have been feeling very sorry for myself until I started reading the stories from people suffering far worse symptoms. My urticaria is now pretty easily controlled by antihistamines, and lately I've experienced more periods of remission. My ambition has been to control the problem without drugs, because of the side- effects of fatigue and poor concentration. I attribute my recent huge improvement to an alternative treatment I so far have not seen mentioned on any urticaria site, namely Reflexology. This is a special type of foot massage that stimulates reflex points relating to the rest of the body. I know it sounds crazy and I was sceptical too at first, but it really seems to work. In 33 months on treatment (1 hour every 2,3 or 4 weeks) I have had 21 months of remission. Even when the urticaria returns, I can control it with minimal medication, say half a tablet of terfenadine every day or every second day. I had to be patient at first, because it took about 6 months to be fully effective, and improvement was slow. I only continued with reflexology because it was so enjoyable and relaxing! The other advantage is that it's drug-free and non-invasive. Hope this is helpful to some other sufferers - has anyone else had success with alternative treatments? Best wishes to you all Joy
