Guest guest
Hi Ceri, many of us find that in the winter months, we need to increase our thyroid hormone replacement and in the summer months, we can decrease it. However, I have attached a document you may wish to read to see what some of the associated conditions are that go along with being hypothyroid that you might need to investigate, should you still feel you are 'not quite getting there'. Read through this document and let us know if you recognise any possibilities, but you might need to ask your GP to test your levels of ferritin(stored iron), vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc, especially after having your twins. Should any of these be low in the reference range, you may well need to supplement them to enable your thyroid hormone replacement to work efficiently. The levothyroxine (T4) you are taking is a mainly inactive thyroid hormone and it must convert to the active thyroid hormone T3. It is T3 that your body needs and not T4. You may need a trial of synthetic T4/T3 combination to get back your full health, but first, get the above results and post them on the forum, together with the reference range for each of the tests done. Do NOT let your GP tell you that your results are normal, because they are within the reference range - we need to know whether they are at the top, the middle or the bottom of the range. Luv - Sheila I have to say that six months on, taking one ThyroComplex vitamin a day, on 150 mcg of Levothyroxine, vaguely following some of the Holford diet (cutting down on bread, sugar, etc), I am feeling better than I did. Not back to how I was before, but then life is different too (before I wasn't a twin mum, the hypothyroidism arrived with the babies, I believe, and being a mum is hard work!), but improved. I don't seem to have those totally defeating daily bouts of exhaustion I had up to six months ago, for which I'm so thankful! Should I be happy with this? Wonder if the improvement was in some ways to do with the warmer lighter months and will it get worse when winter sets in? I hope not! Guest guest
The mind/body connection is very powerful, and I believe, that if anyone thinks a certain regimen helps them, chances are it will to some degree. It's the science of psychoneuroimmunology. Guest guest
I boost my immune system by not spending all day long thinking about CLL. I am W & W since 2005 and most all my counts are the same if not better than the day I got diagnosed. Those that I know who aggressively treated their CLL, they pass on faster from what I can see and worse yet get treatment dependent on stronger and stronger regimens. I asked Keating if I ought to treat the last visit and got a resounding no. I can't say I feel better. I can't say I don't get tired. I know there are those who will disagree, but when there is a cure I will take it, until then little chance I will take treatment. Until there is a cure, quit counting the days and quit looking for temporary fixes. Feeling lousy is just a feeling, not a harbinger of the the end. I have been on watch and wait for 2 years now and my perception is that getting enough sleep, exercising, eating right, etc. gives you something to do and it also makes you feel better (for me, less fatigue). It also puts you in a good place to be when you do need treatment. So by all means do it!!
Guest guest
Hi Mark, I dont think this is so far fetched.....Dr. Franco has me on three fish oil pills 3 times per day. Total of 9. I've always heard that was good for RA. Glad you're doing so well, and I agree....I wouldn't do anything to rock the boat right now either. Better days are coming for us:))) Carol** >Though this is far fetched and may not have anything to do with it, I did start increasing my consumption of fish oil capsules and it was about that very same time that I started getting relief. I know - that sounds weird, but I had read in one of Dr. Sear's books on the Zone Diet (part of his diet consists of taking Omega 3 oils, thus the fish oil) that with RA, it would be benificial to take 3 per meal rather than 2, so I started doing so. And shortly thereafter I started feeling much better. While in Atlanta, I missed taking them for about a day and a half and the last night before leaving Atlanta, I started to ache again at night and woke up stiffer than I had been waking up. So I immediately went back to taking 3 per meal, and last night no aches late at night and I woke up feeling good with lots of energy. Coincidence? Maybe - but then again, maybe it was something my body was needing? Again who's to say? I will have to experiment going off of the fish oil again to see if it makes a difference, but not today, cause I feel too good! > >I will say that it is amazing how much a bad flare affects your mood and your whole attitude and outlook on life. I didn't realize how tired and rather gloomy I was till I came out of this, then suddenly it was like someone switched a light on. I will say this - sure makes one want to stay out of the flare stage! > >So hang in there gang - better days are coming! > >P.S. Although I filled my script for Zithro - I haven't started taking it - I think I will hold off and see if this good period continues for a while. If I go south , then I can always start it then. In the meantime, I started taking milk thistle as I read that w/ long term dosages of antibiotics, that it was helpful to take something like milk thistle to protect your liver. I figured I would give it a try for a month and see how that works. I will try and check and see where I read that - possibly in one of Dr. Murray's books (he's a naturopath and from reading his books, I would guess a pretty good one) > >Mark >------- >http://members.tripod.com/~Mark_Holmes >RA 4/98 AP 7/98 >Minocycline (Lederle generic) 100mg 2x/day; Celebrex 200mg 2x/day;Zone Diet;Olive Leaf;Slippery Elm;Milk thistle;fish oil >RA Chat - http://members.tripod.com/~Mark_Holmes/RA/ra.html >ICQ 18123139 ><!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC " -//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN " > ><HTML><HEAD> ><META content= " text/html; charset=windows-1252 " http-equiv=Content-Type> ><META content= " MSHTML 5.00.2614.3401 " name=GENERATOR> ><STYLE></STYLE> ></HEAD> ><BODY bgColor=#ffffff> ><DIV>Well, I am happy to say that after a 5 day excursion to Atlanta, I have >returned and am still in nearly a pain free mode. & nbsp; After a long flare that >actually seemed to start back in February of this year, I suddenly came out of >it practically overnight. & nbsp; And I was in bad shape just before coming out of >it - now, the pain has left my feet and my knees and no longer is it hard to >stand up out of a chair. & nbsp; My fingers are much better - no longer shiny and >swollen. & nbsp; They still are a bit stiff, but in contrast to what they were >like, I would say my joints are 80% improved. & nbsp; My shoulders still ache >some, but it is now possible to comb my hair and wash my hair without serious >contortions. & nbsp; My TMJ joint still is a bit stiff from time to time in the >morning, but not too bad. & nbsp; Will it last? & nbsp; Who knows? & nbsp; But I >wanted to share the good news, cause I know many of you have been and still are >going thru hellacious spells of this stuff and I thought it might help to know >that eventually you do come out of it.</DIV> ><DIV> & nbsp;</DIV> ><DIV>I'm not sure what caused me to come out of it. & nbsp; I had just started >taking Celebrex, but I had only take 1 pill at the time my symptoms started >vanishing. & nbsp; Now even I do not expect results that fast! & nbsp; </DIV> ><DIV> & nbsp;</DIV> ><DIV>Though this is far fetched and may not have anything to do with it, I did >start increasing my consumption of fish oil capsules and it was about that very >same time that I started getting relief. & nbsp; I know - that sounds weird, but I >had read in one of Dr. Sear's books on the Zone Diet (part of his diet consists >of taking Omega 3 oils, thus the fish oil) that with RA, it would be benificial >to take 3 per meal rather than 2, so I started doing so. & nbsp; And shortly >thereafter I started feeling much better. & nbsp; While in Atlanta, I missed >taking them for about a day and a half and the last night before leaving >Atlanta, I started to ache again at night and woke up stiffer than I had been >waking up. & nbsp; So I immediately went back to taking 3 per meal, and last night >no aches late at night and I woke up feeling good with lots of energy. & nbsp; >Coincidence? & nbsp; Maybe - but then again, maybe it was something my body was >needing? & nbsp; Again who's to say? & nbsp; I will have to experiment going off of >the fish oil again to see if it makes a difference, but not today, cause I feel >too good!</DIV> ><DIV> & nbsp;</DIV> ><DIV>I will say that it is amazing how much a bad flare affects your mood and >your whole attitude and outlook on life. & nbsp; I didn't realize how tired and >rather gloomy I was till I came out of this, then suddenly it was like someone >switched a light on. & nbsp; I will say this - sure makes one want to stay out of >the flare stage!</DIV> ><DIV> & nbsp;</DIV> ><DIV>So hang in there gang - better days are coming! & nbsp; </DIV> ><DIV> & nbsp;</DIV> ><DIV>P.S. I was slow getting started losing for some reason, my body wanted to hold on to everything If you get my drift. Odd when I was eating so much roughage and I am usually so regular! I had more energy this morning and my head seemed clearer. Hope this all continues! Now to share a great salad dressing! No salt or oils needed! It is great on spinach with extra sliced strawberries! Strawberry Vinaigrette 8 Cups strawberries cleaned (frozen or fresh) 1 Cup Bragg cider vinegar 2 tsp. dry mustard (I love 's) 1 tsp. pepper 1 tsp. onion powder Blend in Vitamix! Better after overnight. Hope this helps somebody! GweninTX
