Guest guest
From: " Briarwood " <briarwood@...> Mark, I have never had a herx either, although I have had flares that lasted months. When I first started the Minocin I was so dizzy from it I thought I couldn't take it, but I waited a week, and started to take it with some toast in the morning and it was fine............Bev Hi Bev, Mark...............how the heck do you tell the difference between a herx and a flare? This is one question I would love to have an answer to. Be well......
Guest guest
I'm with your , when I started Minocin my RA had just reared up and my shoulders were a mess. They got worse, but I couldn't tell if it was a herk or a flare. I know you can tell with blood tests, but most of us are using GP's so have to tell them what tests to run. The only thing that makes me think I had a herk was when suggested I lower my dose of Minocin for awhile I felt better. > Sala wrote: > > From: Sala <joeysala@...> > > From: " Briarwood " <briarwood@...> > > Mark, > I have never had a herx either, although I have had flares that > lasted > months. Guest guest
I think a herx usually comes after a sudden switch in medications or increase in dosage, so if you've done one of those and you start to hurt like crazy, you're probably herxing. I think the feeling is the same as a flare. Guest guest
As I recall, a herx takes place when the mycoplasmas are being released from the joints...there is info this on the rheumatic site.....I believe a herx is usually short in duration (though flares can be as well). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Blessings and Health Tony (Diagnosed Sero-Neg. Guest guest
Hi , I may be all wet but I am under the impression a herx comes about because you have changed your medication and I've never done that. I have been on the same dose of 2 100 mg Minocin for 16 months so the summer of flu like feeling and stiffness would be a flare. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I have understood. Bev Hi Bev, Mark...............how the heck do you tell the difference between a herx and a flare? Guest guest
From: Snooks <snooks@...> According to Dr. Brown, the white blood cell count will elevate in a Herxheimer and lower in a flare. In a Herxheimer you will also see an elevation of SED rate, gamma globulin and total globulin and a fall in serum albumin and hematocrit - known to us as getting worse before you get better.
