Guest guest
Hi , I have read some of Barry Sears books and I find it hard to believe that he would say that flax oil is 'not good'. I would ask the person to tell me which book, which page no, and I would go to the library, read it and see which parts he misunderstood. Every cell membrane in our body needs omega 3 oils. Our N American type diet is extremely severely deficient in these. We need lots and lots and we basically can get it from fish oil and flax oil (and some other oils). Apparently mercury destroys essential fats, so us poisoned people need even more. Some people do have trouble converting ALA to EPA and DHA and I think that may be why Andy suggests supplementing with mostly fish oil at first (more expensive) and then adding more flax oil (less expensive) later. Flax oil does go rancid quickly, and that is why I prefer fish oil. When I do use flax oil I keep it frozen (or keep it in the flax seed form). GLA is found in borage oil and evening primrose oil. If people are supplementing borage oil (it's on Andy's list) they are getting way more GLA than their body could ever possibly need or want, so they don't need to be concerned about it at all. In one of Barry Sears books (The Anti-Aging Zone) he says that we can get enough GLA for a day from one bowl of oatmeal. It's like we need lots and lots of omega 3 and a teeny, tiny little bit of GLA. If you can find Udo's oil down there (it's a Canadian product) it is a fairly good (at least as good as it gets) tasting flax oil with GLA added. I >am > eating raw nuts, taking one tablespoon of flaxseed oil in my >yoghurt, > one capsule of fish oil twice per day (pure) 1 cap is usually only about 1 g (not much, could use more). > and I do take olive oil > (one tablespoon sometimes). Good to use extra virgin olive oil because it is the 1st cold press (no heat, no chemicals). Use it in salads and dips for some 'good' oil.
