Guest guest
Jeannie, I have included the link for the Kineret home page which should provide the most factual information on this drug. Like most drugs which have a positive effect, there are always cautions about potential side effects particularly in terms of the advent of " super infections " or the possibilities of bone marrow suppression. As with RA and many other chronic illnesses the challenge becomes providing the patient with drug alternatives which will assist in mobility, comfort, and the slowing or stoppage of joint limitations, without creating new problems with other organ systems. Kineret does sound very promising, although caution should be undertaken in those who already have known kidney or liver problems. I have not yet been offered this drug. If I can afford to, and if it is offered to me, I think I will try it. I certainly will watch very carefully how I feel, my energy level, the presence of a sore throat, which can be a symptom of early bone marrow depression. Trying a new drug is a very personal thing. I try to tell my own patients when weighing these decisions that although people may share the same illness that each of them have a potentially unique response to the disease and also to components of its treatment. Imuran may work for some in Crohn's disease, and may be ineffective and destructive for others. Your RA is unique and a drug which might be disasterous for someone else may be tolerated beautifully and be a lifeline to you. This week is the first week in which I have actually told people I have RA. I must admit to being surprized at how many people do, and how many are functioning quite well after many years with it. I will admit to being a little more positive about my future than I was a week ago.........you should be too ! Best wishes and glad you found the list, J http://www.kineretrx.com/#
