Guest guest
Hi, I've had RA for about 15 years and take Enbrel and Methotrexate. For breakthrough pain I use Bextra. It works better than the other anti-inflammatories I've tried and doesn't have the severe side effects (hasn't for me anyway). Please don't bring up the " not having this drug could increase suicide " arguement when there are alternatives. It's demoralizing. Guest guest
Jill, I didn't mean to offend or demoralize. I'm simply trying to illustrate that although there are hazards to all drugs, NSAIDs included, that there can be a personal cost to not having them available. Granted for most, suicide is overstated, but many peoples lives are happier and fuller with these meds available. I'm glad you're doing well and have a strategy that works well for you. Have a wonderful holiday, Best wishes, Jane > > > > > > I take Aleve in huge amounts to deal with my pain, but > > > my heart rate shot up to 160 over 118 or so, so I cut > > > back drastically (i'm not working so i can take the hit) > > > but now i'm concerned because the news tonight reported > > > that the fda issued a warning about Aleve causing > > > heart attacks and strokes... that's what the doc > > > (who gave me a once over, probono) warned me about > > > and prescribed metoprolol... > > > when i go off aleve my blood pressure comes normal > > > again. Guest guest
I'm glad you said that it was overstated, Jane. I was a little worried about that. Although, as some of you know, I'm not under a doctor's care and take the pain meds to help me function, I think giivng up because life is harder is a really sad and scary notion. I hate pain and it frightens me a lot, but even in the few time when I couldn't do much more than lay in bed and breathe, I never have allowed myself to consider that. Physical pain is relative and even textural... the mind is tormented, but it still works... I hope that no one would let go so easily. Life is more important than that. And it's not the end of the world to lose mobility. happy holidays love and peace to you all yellowchafarm123 <chafarm@...> wrote: Jill, I didn't mean to offend or demoralize. Guest guest
Hello , Yellow , Jane, others Well overstated or not is not really an issue the fact is when liveing with chronic pain and depression as a result it some times is reality and a fact that i have faced more than several times myself thanks to god and my children i have not but i have been extremly close several times and im not a weak person so if i can say this i know there most be more that have considered it to so it is a valid issue maybe not drug vers drug , thus ive always had and been swiched to find one that worked better but i guess i was just one thats not much if anything is going to work well for . one guys experince johnyellow dancer <yellowplugempress@...> wrote: I'm glad you said that it was overstated, Jane. Guest guest
Yellow, I am like you ! I will work hard to remain here doing good and living my life to the last drop regardless of the illness or strife ! I was only thinking of the few despondent folks I have seen as a nurse, who did not necessarily have RA, but whose pain was not controlled well. If we spare even one suicide in these people by keeping a broader range of drugs available then I support that. I suppose my thinking is that we should not close all the candy stores just because diabetes is up and more than half of America is obese ! LOL Best wishes to you, and I hope you are doing well ! I am hanging in there also. Guest guest
, Exactly ! I just want as much as possible available for people, particularly for pain control. This illustrates what I mean, although it doesn't directly impact RA. My dog takes a drug called potassium bromide for seizures. It is approved for use only in dogs and has to be specially mixed by a compounding pharmacy. It works well to completely prevent his seizures, as I am told it does in mammals. In a rural town some miles from here a family drops off their teen daughter at the small library while they grocery shop each week, and to my daughter's horror, the girl has one or two grand mal seizures most weeks. The library staff has agreed to watch the girl and this has been going on for years. The girl apparently has intractable seizures which no medication available to humans is able to prevent, or to better control. I am told by my vet that potassium bromicde will never be used on human beings because it is a cheap drug and that no one will ever pay the millions of dolars it would take to put it through the FDA process. Nurse or not, I want to know why my dog has the right to use things that I can't even if I needed them. It is for this reason that I wish drugs freely available to physicians...... They can post all the cautions they want, but I still want a broad range of all types of drugs available for everyone. Currently ibuprofen works very well for me, despite the fact that I do have some nausea and occasional colitis from it, but in the years to come, it may not. If my kidney labs ever deteriorate, then ibuprofen may not be an option. Some of these other drugs might be well tolerated by me at that time. I wish each of you a gentle and happy holiday with benevolent relatives (LOL) and that your meds work to help all of you for a long time to come. Best wishes to all, Jane > > > > > > > > I take Aleve in huge amounts to deal with my pain, but > > > > my heart rate shot up to 160 over 118 or so, so I cut > > > > back drastically (i'm not working so i can take the hit) > > > > but now i'm concerned because the news tonight reported > > > > that the fda issued a warning about Aleve causing > > > > heart attacks and strokes... that's what the doc > > > > (who gave me a once over, probono) warned me about > > > > and prescribed metoprolol... > > > > when i go off aleve my blood pressure comes normal > > > > again. Guest guest
LOL You're right about the Candy stores! lol I'm glad for the warning, though, because i think i was headed down that path. and i have an elevated risk for stroke. love and peace to you all yellowchafarm123 <chafarm@...> wrote: Yellow, I am like you !
