Guest guest
It has been a while since I have had time or been able to read the emails from the shydrager group. My guy Bob who has MSA has been having a hard time lately. We spent most of December and into the New Year in Saskatoon Hospital and then back to Moose Jaw hospital. Now we are back home and life is some what of a challenge. Bob has having what the doctors call fainting spells at the beginning of December where he would be standing, walking, eating going to the bathroom, showering etc and have a dizzy spell falling to the floor and going out of it. After a few minutes which seemed like forever he would come around and be okay. We went to the emergency one day about 3 hours away after the doctor told us to, spent the day there and they sent us home. On the way home Bob had another spell. The next morning seemed worse so we called the doctor again this time we drove back to Saskatoon and Bob was admitted. He went into what they called an observation room for 2 weeks. They took him off the parkinsons medications Levadopa, mirapex and the water pills. The reason for this was his blood pressure was very high laying down then very low standing (to the point of standing he would fall and have a spell) They then started him on blood pressure medications. This was a hard few days. The first day they lowered it to much and Bob was out of it for 24hours. Then they seemed to find a correct amount of meds ( I'm not sure) However how do we know you just seem to go with what the doctors are telling you. The dizzy spells seemed to lessen because Bob was almost complete bed rest. Now they have sent us home. And life is so different the parkinson traits are all back, walking is a great effort, he feels like he is walking a tight rope. His balance is gone, he is swelling bad in the feet and ankles and even the legs. The jerking and shakes are now there (these where not there before the hospital stay) He has no movement in his arms legs and everywhere else. He needs help in all daily chores, dressing, showering, catherizing, etc,,,/ The doctors do not know what to do any more.. They are trying to get Bob to the Mayo centre in Rochester however we have not heard anything yet. It also looks like Bob has caught a infection in the bladder now. Maybe the catheder was not cleaned.. If any one has any ideas of where we should be turning we would sure like to know. Looking forward to anyones ideas or thoughts. lee
