Guest guest
Congratulations all you Americans, youve finally got a president-elect. What a headache. What sort of voting system do ou use?
Guest guest
Hi , that american election system is quite simple. First you set up a rule, that not the candidate with the most votes overall will win, but that each state has to be counted seperately. Then, if really the candidate with the majority of the votes has a chance to win, the opponent will be allowed to manipulate thousands of invalid votes into valid ones for him. And finally, if the real winner is claiming equal rights and wants to have his votes manipulated too, the highest court of the whole country and NOT of the individual state has the right to deny that. I assume that, if something like this had happened on a small caribbean island, US forces would have invaded the very next day to „save the democracy " . I hope I am allowed to say this, since I have voted for the german „Republicans " all of my life. What has happened in Florida is simply unbelievable, regardless what candidate you favor personally. Bye-bye Torsten
Guest guest
I don't want to get in a political discussions, but I do have to say this analysis is a little skewed. I do agree that the Florida thing was a huge debacle. The biggest issue to me is that the richest country in the world still depends on voting machines/techniques from the 1950's. That is just wrong. When you vote it should be clear, to you and the counters, who you voted for and every vote should be counted. Okay, I also think the electoral college is antiquated. Guest guest
Well, at least all of you know where my home city is now: Tallahassee, Florida. And Torsten, it all looks just as unbelievable from here. I think you're right about what the US would have done had it happened somewhere else too. The one good thing about living here is that now that it is over no new people have been added to our jails or lost their heads. (for some that wouldn't be a big loss). Guest guest
Torsten, in my view, you definitely are allowed. I watched on t.v. as thousands of apparently minority voters with registration slips in hand were removed from the polling booths by, of all groups, the Florida State Highway Patrol or State Troopers or whatever they are called---expected an invasion, but China wasn't in a good po- litical position to launch an attack. It's nuts, no matter what one's political views, and I have on-line friends from all over Europe, and relatives in Europe as well ex- pressing real terror. What baffles me is that Jeb Bush, Governor of Florida, is a VERY bright guy who should have known better. I think elsewhere this kind of stuff is called a " coup. " I think you got it basically right, though, and thank you, Salty Old n Rojas, the poor old fool!

Guest guest
That was my big worry through it all, that somebody would go ballistic. Glad everyone got through it unscathed too.
