Liz G OTC Psoriasis Cream Contains Undeclared Steroid WESTPORT, Dec 28 (Reuters Health) - A cream marketed as a naturally derived treatment for psoriasis and other skin conditions contains " ...a superpotent prescription steroid, which can cause severe adverse reactions if used without medical supervision, " according to Health Canada. Miralex Cream contains clobetasol propionate, Health Canada warned. The agency conducted tests on the cream in September this year. According to Health Canada spokesperson, Tony Halisky, their investigation was prompted by " ...complaints about Miralex's advertising and a report from a physician who was suspicious of the product's efficacy. " Halisky's comments were reported by the National Psoriasis Foundation, which issued its own alert last week following the Canadian warning. According to the foundation, psoriasis patients who use the product should consult their healthcare provider before discontinuing use of the cream. Miralex Cream is distributed via direct mail and over the Internet by Miralex Health Care Inc, a subsidiary of Hueson Pharmaceutical Corporation, Health Canada reports. Its manufacturer, as yet unnamed by the agency, is located outside of Canada and the US. Copyright © 1994-1999 by Medscape Inc.
