Guest guest
Hi Loren: With the yogurt, you are supposed to start off at 1/8 of a teaspoon a day and work up from there. If you keep the motto "slow and easy wins the race" with SCD, you will win. You might want to start off with a very small portion of the pill at one time. I know I couldn't handle yogurt at all until about 1 month into the diet then it was only 1/2 of a teaspoon every other day, working my way up from there. After another 2 months I was eating a whole 7 ounce container of it. Now, I only take acidophilus pills. You have to make sure your acidophilus is 100% legal or you'll only be hurting yourself. If you decide yours is illegal, www.lucyskitchen.com sells legal supplements. I currently take acidophilus, B complex, and a multivitamin from her store and am very happy with them. Good luck!!! I still don't have electricity and there is no ETA on when I'll get it back. My Parish got hit a lot harder than expected. Actually, it's the worst recorded damage-wise. Praying Marilyn and everyone else affected fared as well as me. Here's hoping Hanna, Ike and phine, don't do too much damage!!! Subject: Using ScdophilusTo: BTVC-SCD Date: Thursday, September 4, 2008, 9:37 PM I'm looking for information so I'll have my ducks lined up when Istart SCD.From reading the Introductory diet, page 51, of Breaking the ViciousCycle it indicates using Yogurt from day one.So I assume if one uses a Probiotic such as Scdophilus one can startusing it from day one? Correct?http://www.giprohea lth.com/scdophil us-1.aspxLoren
Guest guest
I use Kirkman's non-dairy acidophilus. I tolerate 1/2 capsule about three times a week. I hope to gradually increase it. I didn't use it during the first month or so on SCD. I still don't eat dairy yogurt, but I eat a small amount of nut yogurt. Guest guest
Thanks for the Info Misty I'm not seeing where there are recommendations on how much yogurt the use. Do you have page number in the BTVC book? Below is what the Scdophilus web site says. Loren ----------------------- " (SCD Legal) Scdophilus™ is an innovative probiotic designed to be used in conjunction with, and in support of, the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) " :SCD Compliant Base The highest quality plant-based cellulose is used in place of non-compliant base ingredients including; maltodextrin (corn, wheat or rice derived), the chicory root based inulin oligosaccharide, anhydrose dextrose (corn derived) and/or fructooligosaccharides (FOS). Cellulose offers a safe and effective base that is also acceptable/legal for use in the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. > > Hi Loren: > > With the yogurt, you are supposed to start off at 1/8 of a teaspoon a day and work up from there. Guest guest
There are several legal acidophilus supplements available, not just SCDophilus. We can start using acidophilus (or yogurt) just after the intro. diet. But most of us have found that it takes a while before our bodies tolerate yogurt or acidophilus well. Some of us end up waiting months before a spoonful of yogurt or a half-capsule of acidophilus is tolerated. So, I'd wait a week or two after starting SCD before trying a half- capsule of SCDophilus, and then I wouldn't take it every day for a few weeks. Let your body become adjusted to the probiotics slowly, as it's also adjusting to the changed diet. If you decide to make yogurt, start slowly with that too. Kim M. Guest guest
After rereading Breaking the Vicious Cycle, going through the index on " yogurt " . I can find no guidance on how to use Yogurt in the book. Nothing on how to introduce it into the diet, how much to start with, nothing. If I missed something I'd sure like to know a page number. I used one capsule of Scdophilus the first day as directed on the Scdophilus web site and the bottle. I had a complete bowel cleansing. Yowzer!!! I then took your advise Misty, and divided the capsule in 1/4 and all is well. Thanks Misty Slow and easy it is then. Loren > > I don't know if that is the BTVC or not. I just know from this group, that it is easiest to start small. I didn't and the first time I ate a 7 oz. jar of yogurt, I thought I was going to die. I waited a while and started off really small. > > Slow and steady is my hard and fast rule with SCD. > > Misty Kimble
Guest guest
How do you support " We can start using acidophilus (or yogurt) just after the intro. diet. " Kim. I mean suppose one buys the book, has no internet access, or doesn't find this group. How does one know how to implement acidophilus or Yogurt into the diet? Guest guest
Grammy you must have a different edition than I have. Mine is Copyright 1994. Basic diet Page 51 Cheese Cake (pg 104) and pg 131 - 134 to make the homemade yogurt and/or into cream cheese So then the only direction in the BTVC book as to amounts of Yogurt to be eaten is: " The amounts of the specified foods to be eaten depend upon the appetite of the individual; there is no restriction as to quantities eaten. " Is that correct? Loren > Dearest One Loren > On pg 69 in BTVC the basic diet; see Cheese Cake (pg 130) and pg 157 - 159 to make the homemade yogurt and/or into cream cheese > ________________________________________ > Loving Care Grammy Gay CD-1994,SCD-1997 > Web Site: http://www.SCDiet.net/ Indy, IN
