Guest guest
I'm sure that was the problem, try it again fresh. I don't know what they put in the frozen but I suspect sulfites, but others have mentioned having problem with frozen veggies. Guest guest
Hi Shirley and Spencer, Frozen spinach makes me sick and symptomatic as well. Jodi SCD 11 months Crohn's/Colitis Could be the rinsing process, the citric acid that they add (that could be corn derived) etc..

Guest guest
Regarding frozen vegetables I googled additives and found out that Formaldehyde is used to disinfect frozen vegetables. This could be what is making many of us sick and why it's only certain brands that cause problems. Guest guest
Hi Ann, I think that is what Kim M was telling me a while ago. I also learned they can rinse it in chemicals along with the water and it doesn't dry properly etc. Jodi SCD 11 months Crohn's/Colitis > > Regarding frozen vegetables I googled additives and found out that Formaldehyde is used to disinfect frozen vegetables. Guest guest
Ann, I feel the same way. I will not buy any frozen veggies or fruits. I don't know how to can- I am sure that is super useful. I did however just buy a vacuum sealer so I am freezing stuff that way. I buy pasture fed grass finished meat and grind it myself. Has made a huge difference in how I feel! Jodi SCD 11 months Crohn's/Colitis I wonder if there is a class about how to can things here in NYC? > > I'll never eat frozen vegetables again, I need to learn how to freeze them myself and learn to can, but who has time for that? Maybe it's not so time consuming once you learn how.
Guest guest
The first time I tried spinach, I was sure it would give me the Big D. Well, I was willing to take a chance. Sauteed one minced garlic clove, 1 tablespoon minced onion, and a few hand-fulls of fresh, organic coarsely chopped spinach in 1 tablespoon organic olive oil, sauteeing it all for about 5 minutes. Put a lid on it and let it steam itself done. I prepared spinach this way and ate it three days in a row ... no problem. Frozen spinach tastes funny to me, so I never buy it. Fresh spinach is available year-round, thank goodness! Guest guest
Hi Ann, I am in the process of testing all of this myself! So, I am not sure which method is best... Marilyn would probably know the best way to do this kind of thing! Maybe she'll answer- If not I'll try and get her attention. Very good questions to ask!! Totally beneficial for me to. Marilyn was the one who told me to get a meat grinder and take my patties out a night before from the freezer- and it is really changing how I feel. Jodi SCD 11 months Crohn's/Colitis > > Jodi, When you freeze vegetables and fruits do you blanche them first? How do you prepare them before sealing them? Do you set your freezer very cold to quick freeze?
Guest guest
Hi Spencer, I got sick from frozen organic spinach. You would think that with organics they aren't allowed to add all of this crap or rinsing in chemicals. But who really knows which country it's manufactured in etc. We know things get tricky with middle men when it comes to the 2% rule! Italy is supposed to have better labeling laws than the USA. Still, that made me sick and so did various frozen organic fruit. Bummer. Jodi SCD 11 months Crohn's/Colitis > > everyone has these problems even with organic frozen spinach? I prefer fresh spinach, but I can use frozen chopped. Note that if you are using fresh, figure one found yields about ten ounces chopped after you remove the big stems and veins and so forth. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
