Hi ,

Thanks for replying.

Have you actually heard anything about it? They're not talking about what they're doing now at this time. This is what's to come down the track. Personal info and everything are going to be stored by these companies in the future. That goes for photos, card, journals everything we do. They're going to have complete access to it all. It's a scary thought.

Tracey,

The line " they're going to have complete access to it all " is, in my

opinion, unnecessarily alarmist. I have heard of Google's plans, yes.

This is not information stored by companies so that they have complete

access to it. It is a different kind of utility where you are able to

upload content and then view it securely from anywhere-- much like you

already use e-mail on a daily basis. Your e-mail is stored by a

company. Every word that you type is stored by a company, so if you

want to avoid companies storing your information, you're going to have

to get off the Internet! :)

The reason for all of this is so that if your computer hard drive

crashes, you haven't lost everything. In a perfect world, you wouldn't

lose anything -- but we all know the world is not perfect.

That is what " cloud computing " is about. My banking is done by " cloud "

-- I only log in to my bank web site to check my statements. It's not

stored on my computer and it can be accessed from anywhere -- but only

by me and my bank. If my computer crashes, it doesn't matter, because

my banking information was never on my computer to start with. It's

all safe and secure on my bank's server.

You would be able to purchase personal space on servers and then you

could store your information securely wherever you like. Amazon and

AOL are already offering similar services.

The reason many of these are still in the works is because complete

privacy isn't yet assured. But this is the direction that the world is

moving, and for the most part, it's highly useful for advanced users

of technology.
