Guest guest
When taking the SP 2 hours after taking the antibiotic should I wait hour before I eat? Should be taken on an empty stomach and not with antifungals. I have not had occasion to alternate s. boulardii with an antibiotic (haven't needed the antibiotic, thank goodness!). However, I do have to balance it with the bromelain which I use as an anti-inflammatory, and which would helpfully digest the s.boulardii! So, I take the s. boulardii, wait half an hour to an hour, and then take the bromelain. Then I have to wait another half hour to an hour before I can eat anything, since bromelain is an anti-inflammatory only when taken on an empty stomach. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Hi Marilyn, Welcome home. I hope the clean-up effort moves quickly. I was sad to read about the mandatory 10 day evacuation but the way you wrote was amusing.. How are you feeling? Did any of the stress of the Hurricane affect your pain situation? Could you clarify the sentence below? Why would you need an anti inflammatory to help digest the S Boulardii? Does it really help break it down and also have enough " umphh " left in the S Boulardii to be useful? Isn't bromelain acidic? Thanks, Jodi SCD 11 months Crohn's/Colitis > However, I do have to balance it with the > bromelain which I use as an anti-inflammatory, > and which would helpfully digest the s.boulardii! Guest guest
Jodi, Well, we've established one GOOD thing about the clean-up: we did lose everything in the refrigerator (expected) but it appears that we had the freezer full enough that things didn't defrost OR the power came back on soon enough that they refroze quickly. (One thing I did was fill all the empty spaces with 3/4 containers of water which froze solid, so there was plenty of ice in the freezer to keep things cold(er).) The stress of the hurricane definitely affected the pain issues. When the barometric pressure goes down, FYI, my pain levels go up, and hurricanes are all about low barometric pressure. I can feel it right now with Ike in the Gulf -- Harry said the outer bands of the storm were visible from the highway as he was coming home tonight, and the dang thing isn't even headed for us at the present time. (Prayers for all who are or halve been in its path!) I have my sleep test tomorrow. Going to be interesting, getting wired for sound and light and then trying to sleeep -- in a strange bed and strange room without Harry and the pups with me. Harry stayed at the hospital with me for my surgery, so I wasn't alone even then! " However, I do have to balance it with the bromelain which I use as an anti-inflammatory, and which would helpfully digest the s.boulardii! " Bromelain, when consumed with food is a protease enzyme. Bromelain when consumed on an empty stomach, becomes an anti-inflammatory. (Don't ask me why!) Therefore, I don't want to take the bromelain too soon after taking the s. boulardii, or the bromelain will act as a protease and not an anti-inflammatory, and break down the s.boulardii so I don't get its probiotic effects. Or so I surmise. I have no study data to back the statements up, merely observation that if I take the bromelain too soon on the heels of the s. boulardii, neither one seems to work very well the way I want them to. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
