A lot of folks wonder that, actually. Like my friends who had seven feet

of water in their home. But, don't you know -- if we were sensible, we

wouldn't live here. Never mind that family and friends and our jobs are

here. We could move the family, and find jobs elsewhere if we REALLY

wanted to.

You know, in a way, it's a bit like IBD: some people tell us that if we

really wanted to, we wouldn't be so sick. <wry grin>

Jodi,

Before my router died, I would just drop a copy onto Harry's laptop, but

I can't do that this time. It will probably have to be on CDs. I have a

dual hard drive system with crosslinked back up (hey, I know what I'm

talking about even if I'm not using the right computer terms!), but that

does no good if the whole system dies.

<wry grin> Gmail could be a back-up, but it would take a very long

time to put the contents of my drive into an account. Even with

DSL.

A notebook would be useful, but a notebook, unlike my tower, doesn't have

the CD drive, the DVD drive, a zip drives AND a 3.5 inch drive, in

addition to two 80 GB hard drives.

Have you looked at using Carbonite for backing up? Not free but

supposed to be very good.

Please stay safe.

Do you think we can keep politics off the list? There are bound to be

unpleasant disagreements.

Indeed, there are... <g> We can move the discussion of hurricanes

and politics over to link from the URL I mentioned in my first note about

this.

And just to bring this back to SCD, the souffle bread and souffle

crackers are almost ready to go, though I still have the beef and

broccoli pie to make, and the avocado chicken salad. Since it's going

WITH us, I'm not worried about refrigeration for it.

Shar,

Thanks for the suggestion. And believe me, we plan to stay safe.

<sigh> It's the fur kids that are our concern at this

point.

I use a removable hard drive and Acronis True Image software to backup.

I really like the set up and I'm able to schedule backups so it works

automatically.

Works for me.

I'm sure the fur kids are the primary concern now. I wish I weren't so

far away, I would

take them for you to keep them safe. I have two longhairs here of my

own and know

the breed well.

Thanks for the computer back up suggestion.

I just spoke to someone we know who lives in Canton, GA (a ways north of

Atlanta) who is willing to have the fur children if the hotel refuses

them. However, I mean to look up the names of a couple of action

reporters in the Atlanta area and have their phone numbers handy.

Don't know if it's the case in Georgia, but in Louisiana, they repealed

the law banning pets from hurricane shelter facilities after so many

refused to evacuate for Katrina because of their beloved fur

kids.
