I've had to evacuate for hurricanes several times a year for most of the past 10 years. I live in a manufactured home so I always get the mandatory evacuation order. But I think the worst of Gustav is going to miss my area, if all the forecasters are right..... I live between Pensacola, Fla. and Mobile, Ala., about 3 hours east of New Orleans.

In addition to the other foods mentioned by our Louisiana and Texas members, which are very similar to the supplies I keep on hand during hurricane season, I also find a supply of beef jerky necessary. I get tired of canned tuna very quickly [grin]. Oh, and I always have lots of water on hand. It usually takes 3 to 4 days following a storm before water and ice become available, and even longer for stores to reopen and utilities restored.

Hope those of you in Gustav's projected path "cone" fare OK during the landfall and afterwards. Keep safe.
