Guest guest Posted August 30, 2008 Report Share Posted August 30, 2008 I am sitting here with a THROBBING headache and afraid to use an over the counter pain reliever for fear that it will have starch or other illegal binders in it. Can anyone recommend and SCD legal brand for aspirin or ibuprofen? If Tylenol is the one, I understand if you drink at all you should avoid this one so I am not even considering this one. Tylenol is better for people with GI issues and IBprofine is better for people with ASD issues. It is ideal to get a script from a doc and have these meds compounded through a compounding pharmacy to make it SCD compliant (I use Hopewell Pharmacy in NJ) so that when these situations happen you have your SCD legal medications- without the illegal concern. With that said if you have to take an over the counter Tylenol now take it! And when you are feeling better prioritize and get some compounded meds. Guest guest Posted August 31, 2008 Report Share Posted August 31, 2008 Jodi's advice is very good and is the advice I use when my headaches get too bad, I also take Tylenol because Ibuprofen is very hard on your guts. Once I got a terrible tension headache that Tylenon would not touch and had to take Excedrin for Migraines. I haven't been to the doctor since starting SCD so I haven't been able to get a script for Tylenol to be compounded so I just take the OTC stuff and so far so good (crossing fingers; knocking on wood). Back in my Tylenol days I'd have to take the coated ones. Which are full of illegals, I guess more so than uncoated? Wishing you much safety from Gustav- they're saying it's going to be a monster. Did you make yourself beef jerkey? So manybe you won't have to eat so much fruit? Please stay safe. I am so worried about all of you. Guest guest Posted August 31, 2008 Report Share Posted August 31, 2008 I'm allergic to acetominophen (the primary ingredient in Tylenol) so when I need moderate pain relief I take either aspirin or ibuoprofen, depending on the cause of the pain. I don't take them too often, and my gastroenterologist is OK with this since I don't have an IBD. I can find a brand of both that are also SCD-legal in my local pharmacies. But I had to read the ingredient list on each box and bottle very thoroughly until I found a form that had the least amount of binders and no illegals. Each time I buy a box of my preferred brand and style I check the ingredient list to make sure the formula hasn't changed. Kim M. I cannot take ibuoprofen at all as that triggers my Crohn's/Colitis to spasm. Aspirin makes me so nauseas. I don't have many choices left only like antihistamines and such to knock me out. A bummer. Though, there is a local company that makes legal jerky. I have one pack left from my trip to Disney. I'm going to try to make it to the store that carries it today. I am going to boil a couple dozen eggs tomorrow since they stay good at room temp for a couple days. If we loose electricity, we'll grill most of the meat in the freezer. Hopefully, I won't be too dependent on fruits. THANKS!!!
