Anyone know some kind of kitchen voodoo? I'm assuming you've soaked it for an initial stab at getting things out? My favorite cleaner-of-first resort for pots is plain white vinegar. (No need for organic stuff here: just the el cheapo kind.) Pour it in and simmer gently for 10-15 minutes. Whole house will smell like vinegar, but that's better than Clorox. Let cool, scrub again. If that doesn't do it, use a paste of a little water and baking soda, and pure elbow grease, and scrub again -- you're using the baking soda like some people would use cleanser. I've also seen recommendations of putting a dryer softener sheet in the pot with some water and allow to soak over night, but as I don't use dryer sheets, I've never had occasion to try it. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Wow! This is great info, I've already ruined 3 pots doing this and have just thrown them away..wish I knew, but at least it'll save me for next time if it happens again! Guest guest
Marilyn, YUP!! I did major major elbow grease- brought me back to kitchen duty in boarding school- LOL. So after soaking and scrubbing with baking soda this morning I decided to post the question... So what I did was follow your directions I heated up white vinegar and let it cook (awful smell) and I think it loosened the residue and after that I soaked it in with bleach. Not my favorite but it worked. I have done what Baden said she did- I have left the pot on to steam too long so the water runs out. Although that was much more of a smelly mess, it was much easier to clean. Being a person that gets stress and aggression out through cleaning you'd think I could clean a pot like this... My goodness. I have experienced a lot of stress, anxiety and anger the past few weeks due to the fact there are 3 simultaneous jack-hammers at work on this block. 1 for construction for a new building, 2 for the street- they are ripping it apart (maybe ConEdison is finally doing some very much needed work too??) They have been working on it forever and sometimes (like this morning) they start at 630am!!!! They worked until 11pm last night. My husband said he heard me cursing in my sleep!! LOL!!!!! I have been out of the house lately and if I am home I am just cleaning and cleaning due to aggravation! Way to go for energy huh?? But this stubborn pot didn't want to budge- but hurray it finally did.. So danka! Jodi SCD 12 months Crohn's/Colitis > >So my steamer pot has like a lovely brown ring > >in it. Can I get this out??
