Guest guest
Thanks Eileen...appreciate your support and comments! I sure don't want you to be scared. I have read many reports of positive colonoscopy results after SCD, but I don't remember how long those people were on the diet. I will keep the positives you mentioned in my mind and stick to the diet! Thanks again,Janet Re: Results of Colonoscopy afteralmost 1 year on SCD so sorry to hear!!! and scared now too!! to be honest- but i would say while you and doc are figuring this out keep in mind you are healthier and do feel better so those are 2 positives of scd - it can take 2 years they say but yes i would have thought you'd see some healing by now - hang in eileen 7 months scd celiac/crohns -- In BTVC-SCD@yahoogroup s.com, Janet/Lloyd Wolford <ljwolf2001@ ...> wrote: > > > > > > Hello Everyone, > I have been on SCD since Oct. 5, 2007. I have followed the diet religiously, have felt better than ever since being on the diet and have been in remission(or so I thought) with just a few relapses. I have lost 35 pounds which was a benefit and people tell me I look great! Even with the relapses, I have believed in this diet and wanted so much for my doctor to see a healthy colon when he did the colonoscopy yesterday. > He said my colon is "worse!" He wants to see me in 2 weeks for some other kind of treatment plan...currently I am on Colazal...9 capsules a day. > I still believe in SCD and will continue to follow it, but I am obviously disappointed with these results. My medical doctor does not know I am on SCD because he believes in nothing but medication. I will schedule an appt. with my Naturopahic doctor soon and discuss the results with him. > Have any of you had a similar experience? Please share with me. I realize I have had UC for 29 years, however, I think there should have been some positive changes in my colon after being on SCD for almost a year. > Thanks for any comments, suggestions or thoughts on this! > Janet >
Guest guest
Hi Kathy,Yes! I have experienced improvement in my symptoms. I have had a few short relapses since I started, but have bounced back faster. I currently have no symptoms and just one bm a day and it is great...that's why I was so surprised/disappointed after hearing the results. I think you are right about the colon needing more time to heal and I will give it more time as I stick with the diet. It sure has improved the quality of my life as far as bleeding/d/stomach pain and trips to the bathroom. I can eat almost everything SCD legal too with the exception of peanuts ...I limit the pecans too.I have not been able to stop the meds...Colazal...whenever I try to reduce them I feel a relapse coming on. That's great you are med free...good for you.!Thanks for your encouragement!Janet Re: Results of Colonoscopy afteralmost 1 year on SCD > > Hello Everyone, > I have been on SCD since Oct. 5, 2007. > He said my colon is "worse!" > I realize I have had UC for 29 years, however, I think there should have been some positive changes in my colon after being on SCD for almost a year. > > Janet > Hi Janet, How extensive was your UC prior to being on SCD? Have you been on the same quantity and type of meds the entire time you've been on SCD? I know that my case of UC was considered "mild" by my GI doctor, and I responded well to azulfidine (sulfasalazine) for the first year after my diagnosis, but then it stopped working. I only had UC for about 1-1/2 or 2 years before starting SCD. Although my situation seems much more "mild" and of shorter duration than yours and many others, I have been on SCD for almost 14 months and just last month was able to eliminate meds. So - my point is that I think that UC is really difficult to recover from. It must take a very long time for the intestine to heal. And if you have UC throughout much of your colon and have had for 29 years, it's going to take a long time to heal that damage. Other than feeling better and losing weight, have you had an improvement of your symptoms (frequency, diarrhea, bleeding, etc.)? It seems that if you are doing better from the standpoint of using fewer meds or having improvements in your symptoms, it might be worth talking to your doctor about giving SCD a bit more time. I'm sure you feel discouraged - I keep thinking that it's been a year for me now and I'm off meds, so I should be able to eat pretty much whatever I want that's SCD legal - but still even too many raw nuts will send my stools into mushy-land. It is discouraging how long it takes, but (at least for me) the improvements are noticeable enough to keep me going and committed to the diet. Hang in there! Kathy UC since 12/05 SCD since 7/07 med-free since 7/
