Guest guest
If you are referring to the Yogourmet Multi Yogurt Maker, then I think that a lot of people on this list use it. I certainly do. I prefer to use the glass jars that Lucy's Kitchen Shop sells, rather than the plastic inner container that comes with the Yogourmet machine, because I find it difficult to lock the plastic lid onto the plastic container to seal it when I am about to put it into the water bath in the machine. One flaw this machine has is that it is designed to heat the water to about 120 F. For SCD purposes, it is best to keep the water bath between 100 F and 110 F. So I, and many other people, have purchased lamp sliding dimmers (found in the electrical aisle of hardware stores, made by Lutron or Leviton). We plug the sliding dimmer into the wall outlet, then plug the Yogourmet plug into the sliding dimmer. After the plastic inner container or glass jar of heated-then-cooled milk mixed with culture is placed in the water bath, it takes a few hours with the dimmer set to 100% on, for the water bath to heat to 100 F. At that time, I slide the dimmer switch to about reduce the current, and I monitor the temperature of the water bath every few hours (except overnight). I inter I also use Lyosan freeze-dried yogurt culture, from the same company as the Yogourmet yogurt maker. Yogurt maker > Do most people use the yogurt maker at the SCD site. I am still waiting for the book to get started too. It sounds like there is a lot of info in it. Can't wait. There is a heap of information in BTVC -- and some of us are still finding things in it, even when we thought we knew SCD forwards and backwards. But you don't have to wait to get started! Check out the websites! www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info and www.pecanbread.com have an amazing amount of information for the newcomer. I have two Yogourmet and love them. A number of people have found that because they are intended for a different mix of starter, they overheat over 24 hours for our mix of yogurt starter. As a consequence, buying a dimmer switch to plug it into so you can control the heat is a good thing. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
