Starch in my meds

Even though I am allergic to Sulpha I had been taking and increasing

dosage slowly a generic version of Azulfidine (called Sulfasalzine) in

placement of Asacol (which has starch filler in it.) Since I had

increased the dosage slowly I have had minimal reaction to breaking

out in hives so I thought this avenue was a success...or so I thought

- with the increase in dosage (now at 5, 500mg tabs a day) I have

noticed an increase in a mild, queezy feeling mid day that makes me

almost detest the sight of food. This latest symptom prompted me to

check in with the pharmacist to see if I was taking a coated version

of this drug and if not did the coated version have illegal fillers.

The pharmacist called me today and told me that the generic version I

am taking has corn starch in it!!!!! They do not even carry the

actual drug Azulfadine and will need to call the manufacturer to see

if there are fillers in that form. This news is most frustrating.

Given the queasiness, the latest news about the starch and pretty much

being symptom free I am debating about just stopping meds all

together. I am on 5 mg of Prednisone and if all goes well, I will be

off of this stuff in about two weeks. Aside from a mild flare (softer

stools and just a hint of pus) at 10 mg - which lasted for about 1

1/2 weeks and is now gone, I am symptom free. Do you guys think

avoiding meds would makes sense or do you suggest another avenue?
