No, you need the organic kedem - the regular one is no good for us.

Eileen.

Only organic kedem is okay. The other one is not okay. The concentrate

increases the sugar content a lot.

For instance, when my nieces who are used to the regular one

come over to my house and taste the organic, to them it tastes

sugarless like a wine.

You don't have to dump it - just return it wherever you bought it.

Hi Eileen,I understand not wanting to dump a $5 bottle of juice! I also can't find what you're referencing on the pecanbread site. Is that where the info is? Or in the archives of the pecanbread group?I did a quick google search and it seems that potassium metabisulfite is a common ingredient added to wine to inhibit microbial growth. I wasn't able to find anything that would help determine if it is legal or not. I did find this on the pecanbread website about concentrates. It just explains why they're not allowed."Store-bought products often pass through many sets of hands before they

are put in the final package. For example, some juice concentrates can be

made in one plant and then shipped to another plant where water is added and

then they are bottled. The final producer can "honestly" say they did not

add any illegals but what about the first producer of the concentrate. The

original concentrate does not even have to be made in the same country as

the final bottler."It is really up to you whether you choose to drink it or not. Unless someone has checked it out (hard copy letter on letterhead, etc) and you feel comfortable with that, I wouldn't use it. Don't dump it though, just return it.Hope this helps.Best wishes,Kim H.husband, , CD 1999SCD 2002 Re: juiceI don't know what made me searchmore(probably because i hate to dump a

Yeah, it's definitely better to be safe than sorry. After I sent the email, I went to the pecanbread group and saw what you were referencing. Based on what Mara said though about it being significantly sweeter than the organic, which I'm assuming is not from concentrate, and the fact that we know illegals can be added to concentrate before it even reaches Kedem, I wouldn't drink it. Sorry about the wasted $5 :-(You could give it to a friend, neighbor or family member so that it is at least not going down the drain.Take care,Kim H.-----

Yes, that's true. The deal with Welch's is that Elaine checked it out and deemed it legal. That was years ago though which is why there has been talk lately about whether or not it should still be trusted.

It is very difficult to say whether a processed product is ok or not. And even if it is ok at one time, as with Welch's, is it still ok now, years later? I don't know. The manufacturers change their recipes, ingredients, processes, etc without warning. There is also the 2% rule to worry about. You just have to use your best judgement and go with what you feel comfortable with. I wish I had a better answer and I wish there wasn't a 2% rule and that there were at least a few ready made things that we could use to make life just a little easier. I have trust issues though so I still make my own everything. Others don't and use the Imagine chicken stock, Muir Glen tomatoes and various other items that have been checked out and are supposedly ok. Truthfully, it's very tempting to use them. I don't love spending half or more of my weekend in the kitchen but it's better than the

alternative......

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Best wishes,

Re: juiceit does say grape juice concentrate - isn't that the same as welch's or am I nuts???It depends on the concentrating process. If it is concentrated in the samepercentage that actually exists in the grape, or if more concentrate is addedto make it sweeter. Mara

you are very helpful and for the sake of adding extra calories I'll

just do without it - not a necessity
