Guest guest
Hi : It sounds like the nutritionist in Dr. Correll's office is the one we all have needed for a long time. She seems very thorough and is covering the ground the doctors should be explaining if they had time......and if they knew the subject as well as she does. Few doctors have had as much training in nutrition as her. I took particular note of the admonition of drinking too much water. High water consumption does help with proper functioning of the alimentary canal, and to flush out the kidneys. But it also flushes out potassium, magnesium, and other minerals and nutrients the body needs. Unfortunately, we don't have a built-in meter to tell us when our systemic water level is correct. It changes constantly due to activity level, ambient temperature, diet, illness, metabolic rate, and a host of other things. It seems as though some person guessed that the familiar " 8 glasses of water per day " was a good number. Bet you never saw any documentation to support that as a regimen for everyone in the general population. Perhaps I got on my soap box because of my last trip to one of my internist's office. His dietitian gave me some handout material that looked like it was prepared for third grade school children; This was accompanied by a 2 minute lecture pitched at the village idiot's level. I left the office out of sorts. Except for the fact that the internist is a nice guy and an excellent physician, I would never go back there. Having said that, I would still change doctors if I knew of one locally who had a dietitian like yours. Virtually all AP doctors understand that diet is critical to the success of the protocol. Congratulations on your good fortune. Harry
Guest guest
I know this is heresy, but I recall reading in one of Dr. Dale 's books that this idea of drinking so much water was hogwash. As I recall, he basically said that you get plenty of water in a normal day through intake of liquids, fruits, etc. In fact he even went on to say that he thought it was detrimental to folks with arthritis (and I don't remember his exact reasoning, so if any of you have one of his books, perhaps you could explain why) , something on the order that it was more or less diluting the " slippery stuff " (my quote) that aids in making the joints flexable. No Ethel - I didn't say this - Dr. did! Can't remember which book though. Thought that would spark some discussion!
