Guest guest
Hi Diane: I had to start very slowy with yogurt. Just a 1/2 tsp. a day for 3 days and working up from there. By the end of the month, I was eating a 7 oz. jar a day. I haven't tried anything else fermented. If you are taking a probiotic, you might be getting too much good bacteria at one time. Misty Kimble CD - no meds SCD - 8 months Subject: Intolerance to fermented foodsTo: BTVC-SCD Date: Thursday, September 25, 2008, 8:35 PM Hi all, newly diagnosed with CD, been suffering with it for years though. Doctors diet didn't work..sound familiar? Went online and found the SCD. Have ordered the Elaine's BTVC book, but am already off all grains, sugars and lactose. Been trying some recipes from recommended online sites. Problem is, I cannot tolerate anything fermented. It's like a toxic poison in my body and no meds will relieve the pain. The 24-hour fermented yogurt is such a big part of this diet, I'm at a loss as to what to do. What can I use in the recipes that require the yogurt? I am already on acidophillis probiotics. Does anyone else have this problem?? Any solutions?Thank you very much! Dianne
Guest guest
I don't tolerate fermented foods, including the 24-hour yogurt -- and I've been on SCD for more than five years. Just the way my digestion and immune system behaves now. I seem to be doing OK on probiotics by just using an acidophilus supplement (Kirkman Labs) regularly. It did take me 4 months to get my body to tolerate the acidophilus supplement, however. My regular maintenance dose is now one capsule twice a week. I also don't eat dairy, and can only handle about half of the permitted foods. But I eat well, and have my functional digestive disorders under good management. Kim M.
