You don't say how much prednisone you're on right now. Be very careful about how quickly you decrease your dosage. I tried to get off too quickly and it sent me into a major flare which has lasted over a year. Be especially careful when you're down to 5 mg and under. I tried to go from 2 mg to 1 mg and it was a bad idea. Now I'm stuck back up at 4 mg, having had to go all the way back up to 10 and do a gradual taper - and that was almost a year ago!! I was feeling so great on 2 mg last year. Maybe I should have just stuck with it.

Good luck to you.

HI :

Just to give you an idea of my prednisone taper schedule. I started at 10 mg. I think I reduced every 2 weeks 1 mg until I got to 5mg. I have been stable on 5 mg for about 5 months and just reduced to 4 about 2 weeks ago. Everyone is different, but be careful. Prednisone does come in 1 mg tabs. Let us know how you are doing.

Hi Gloria,

I am currently down to 2.5mgs. My Rheumy had me go from 10mgs, then

2 weeks later 7.5mg, then 2 weeks later 5mgs, now I am at 2.5mg, in 8

days, I can stop taking it completly. But, I only have enough for 5

more days.

thanks,

Everyone is different in weaning off Prednisone so you have to let your body tell you what the right schedule is. If you get stabilized well enough before the 2 weeks is up, you might try reducing a day or two earlier. Some people cannot get off Prednisone at all until their disease is well enough controlled by other means. God bless.

Subject: prednisone question about getting off

I convinced my Rheumatologist to get me off the prednisone. I've been lowering my dosage every 2 weeks. Is this the right time amount to lower it? A friend of mine was on pred and was off within a month, she was lowering it every week. I am asking because the amount of pred that I have left will short me by a couple of days and I don't was to get a refill on the prescription if it isn't nessesary.Any info about this would be great.thanks,

thank you Harold. I've been feeling really good. I am also on 10mg

of Methotrexate once a week. I've been on that for 2 months now. I

really haven't had any flare ups or anything. Thanks for the info.

I did a milligram a week and that was quicker than the docs wanted....but I

was determined - VERY determined. Yes, I hurt some and it gets tough down

below the 3 mg. I did 1/2 mg. a bit slower below the 3 mg. Make sure you

get 1 mg. pills...
