Guest guest
My 7 yr old son is developing a very juicy cough - everyone in his school is coughing all over each other!! I went to our natural health food store today and both the owner and I checked his products, and there was nothing that was legal. What do you all do for these symptoms? I was thinking a spoonful of honey to surpress the cough? But what else? Also, if this develops into an infection, like strep - is there one antibiotic that is better than another?? Thanks Kim
Guest guest
There are some antibiotics that are better than others for people with crohn's. my son recently had a toe become infected and the dr. gave him a shot of one and pills of another. i mentioned beforehand that he was diagnosed with crohn's and asked if there were some antibiotics that would work on this infection AND that didn't wreak havoc on intestinal flora. he said there were and chose those two accordingly. they worked. adam shimmiek wrote: My 7 yr old son is developing a very juicy cough - everyone in his school is coughing all over each other!! Guest guest
Kim, Here are a few things that have helped my teenage son with sore throat/cold symptoms: the spoon of honey as you suggested, gargling with warm salt water (we use sea salt), Peaceful Mountain Throat Rescue (throat spray) - ingredients are just deionzied water, peppermint oil and ionic silver https://www.peacefulmountain.com/store/throat.php He's also used the Peaceful Mountain Cold Rescue (nasal spray) Amazon has better prices on the Peaceful Mountain products, but this link gave a better description. They may be available at a local nutrition shop, as they are for us. And another thing we swear by are Zicam Cold Remedy gel swabs. http://www.zicam.com/products/coldremedy_gelswabs This link has a testimonial about Zicam and a detailed analysis of the ingredients toward the bottom of the article. I am not sure if she is accurate in the analysis or not. I just know the product REALLY works! http://www.epinions.com/review/Vicks_Nyquil_Liquicaps/well-review-55BE-2D1E9F4D-\ 3A4CAB5C-prod2 Hope your son feels better soon. Guest guest
Hi Kim, Last year, I got sick with a horrific cough. I have been cursed with these types of coughs all my life - so wracking that I am surprised I haven't ever broken a rib. Seriously. I am unable to sleep and it usually takes at least a week for the cough to subside enough for me to feel human again. I talked to my doctor and pharmacist and they found a cough syrup that contains codeine and an expectorant (which is what I had always used pre-SCD - phenergan), but it's formulated for diabetics, so it's sugar- free. It's called Vi-Q-Tuss. It had a number of other ingredients (the pharmacist was kind enough to go get the dispensing bottle and let me read the list of ingredients), but nothing that was a huge red flag. I took that cough syrup for about 3-4 days and it worked wonders without causing any digestive issues for me. Just an FYI in case your son gets worse. Good luck!
