Like everything else, taking probiotics with food or on an empty stomach depends on each individual. "Experts" generally fall into either side of this issue. The best way or correct way is whichever way suits your body or your son's body best

I take probiotics (and most medications) with food, at the end of a meal. If I take it on an empty stomach my immune system reacts, my stomach rejects it, and my body systems are thrown out of kilter for days. I recognize that some of the probiotic's effectiveness will be lost by taking it with food, but at least I'm getting some benefit and my body remains calm. I always go with low doses of supplements, and take them with food, to avoid my body's negative reactions. I figure slow and minimal is better for long-term improvement.

So, there's no correct way to take probiotics. All depends on how the body reacts.
