I believe most of the probiotics remain in the coagulated portion of the yogurt, even if you drain off the liquid. So you shouldn't have to supplement with acidophilus, as long as your yogurt started includes acidophilus.

But I also think I read somewhere or other that there's not much whey in the liquid that is drained when you drip yogurt; it remains with the yogurt. The liquid is mostly water with galactose. In other words, if you're allergic to whey, you may find you don't tolerate dripped yogurt either. I guess it depends on whether you're allergic to the milk protein itself, casein.

My recent allergy test showed cow's milk allergy, especially to thewhey. If I drip my yogurt and throw away the whey, am I losing a lotof the probiotic benefit or is it mostly in the curd part? Should Isupplement with extra acidophilus to make up the difference?Debbie TUC 28 yrs, SCD 10/06, Lialda
