I am a patient of Dr. Hares and would be willing to answer any questions you

might have.

I am from out of state (I live in Illinois) and am going to Dr. Hares because

there aren't any surgeons in IL that offer the DS. The RNY was out of the

question for me so I decided on Dr. Hares.

I did contact all three surgeons listed in the Detroit area. One of them told

me that they didn't have rights at any particular hospital at the time (I

think this was MacPherson), which concerned me greatly and the others

personality seemed a bit abrasive to me. Just my opinion. I also read the

comments made on the AMOS site for each doctor and liked what I read about

Dr. Hares the best.

I have found my experiences with Dr. Hares to be very pleasant and

professional. He has not lost any patients and studied extensively with Dr.

Hess. His nurse (Jackie) can be a little distracted at times, but very

friendly nonetheless. I have found Carol to be very helpful, supportive and

professional at all times!

What is most important is that you feel comfortable with the surgeon that you

choose. Do your research.

I know traveling to see a doctor is a pain. I understand completely. It is a

6+ hour drive for me. I went for my initial consult, had all my pre-op

testing done at home coordinated by my PCP and Dr. Hares. I have my final

visit with Dr. Hares November 30 and surgery scheduled December 11th. I could

have lumped the last two visits together, but MY schedule wouldn't allow it

because I am in grad school and have final exams the week before my surgery

and therefore couldn't be in the Detroit area ealier than Saturday the 9th.

I hope all this helps. If you have any more specific questions, feel free to

e-mail me directly.

Good luck with your research and in making your decision. Just listen to

yourself and you will find the right doctor for you!
