OK, everybody take a deep breath. There's another e-mail

worm loose, and this one is the worst so far. We'll tell

you how to stop it.

The " New Love " worm is based on the ILOVEYOU nasty that

attacked computers just a few weeks ago. That old flame

was pretty easy to detect -- you just had to watch for

an attachment named " Love-Letter-For-You. " This new

threat is sneakier: It changes the name of its attachment

(and the subject line of the e-mail) every time it hops

from PC to PC. And while the " Love Bug " messed with your

JPEG images and MP3 music, " New Love " tries to delete

every file on your machine. Ouch!

There are three key ways to protect yourself:

1) Be wary opening any attachment in e-mail. If you know

there's a new virus going around, just don't do it.

2) Scan your system for updates to your virus-definition

files. ZDNet can do this for you as a free service, and

we'll always include the latest patches for your anti-

virus programs. Scroll down for the link, and use it

regularly.

3) Stay aware of each new threat. Virus writers try to

fool you, so check in with ZDNet whenever you hear there's

an attack underway -- we're sure to have complete coverage.
