They are not officially legal. Some Larabars have been determined to be OK as an advanced food by people who were asymptomatic. I have not looked at the label on this one, nor have I tried it. Keep in mind that peanut butter can be a problem for many people and that we do not know if this peanut butter might not have had sugar or other illegals added. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
I doubt that would be an issue. They are one company that doesn't put sugar into any of their goods. There might be some iillegal processing agents - but sugar I doubt strenuously. Guest guest
I've said it before on this list - Larabars were a lifesaver when I first started SCD and was craving sweets like a fiend. I've never had a bad reaction with any of the flavors I've tried. They do have a new sub-brand out that contains cocoa - I assume this would be a problem but the rest of them have been fine for me.Harvey Crohns 13 yearsSCD 5 monthsMed free 5 months At 05:54 PM 10/22/2008, you wrote:I doubt that would be an issue. Guest guest
I think what Marilyn constantly reiterates is that on SCD we should make our own make our own make our own since the 2% rule, 3rd parties and a whole list of reasons that I won't type out. What we do with-in that is our own personal choice like buying Larabars. I am happy that there are -some- things out there people can buy ready made. I really am as I understand how hard all of this is! I cannot buy Larabars, I don't know if I am part of the minority in that sense. I think Marliyn walks a fine rope here because all of us are all so different and our tolerances are just a rainbow of varying degrees! She has to keep that in mind all the time. Also There is no single process of people who are qualified to systematically RECHECK the legality of products. So blanket statements of something being " legal " becomes tricky. How do we know if the factory changes or like if a company is bought or a whole slew of logistics besides day to day operations of quality ingredients or the process of manufacturing etc. Just because it applied 3 months ago- how do we know it applies today? I think Marilyn just wants us all to stick to the diet and stay well and she points that out all the time.. Yes, it's a bummer but she is right.. She ain't be dissing larabars.. We just have to proceed with caution and be weary. Jodi SCD 12 months Crohn's/Colitis

See, if I had tried Larabars when I was first on SCD, I would have assumed SCD didn't work, because I didn't (and still don't) tolerate much fruit. I'm working on recipes for homemade fruit and nut bars, because while I like the ones I've had, they're pretty much same old, same old. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

Adam, I'm very glad they've worked for your son. If people choose to use commercial products, that's their choice. But we don't have an official SCD-legal board, and as a consequence, I can only repeat Elaine's mantra of " Make your own, make your own, make your own. " I've lost track of the number of times where, unlike your son, someone says, " SCD doesn't work! " Then when we dig into it, we find out that they were using commercial products, or that they added this herbal remedy or that vitamin supplement (which often turns out to either be illegal or contain illegals) and that's when the problem began. But people never blame the tweaks they made to the diet in BTVC. They blame SCD. That's only one of the reasons I'm so adamant about not recommending commercial products myself. I've had too many bad reactions to them, even if the person recommending them did just fine. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
