Guest guest
Never wanted to do antidepressants but I liked Lexapro. There's a few kinds of antidepressants so if that one goes along the SCD plan the best, try it! I call them my happy pills and yes you can sleep less and with issues like we have, it was a good thing for me. Good luck! Guest guest
hi there - actually sleep has been my saving grace - no matter how nauseous or gas pains etc I know nothing about my problems when I'm sleeping and I'm actually slepping more than in the past 10 years and I think I need it due to the celiac too - auto-immune diseases can really take their toll, so I'm trying to rest more -oh the confusion!!! thanks oh - he said 5mg -is that what you use???? eileen > > > > ok not much time but have endoscopy/colonoscopy 10/15 to see what has > > changed if anything - doc knows I'm anti-meds and so is he but after > > discussing all with me doc and hubby - I THINK I've opened up enough > to > > stay SCD (minus the miralax) I need as a prep > > and I'm going to try Lexapro (an antidepressant) as serratonin helps > > with the intestinal nerves is what I got from doc -95% of it is in the > > gut and this was found out after using it on people for depression etc > - > > gut-brain connection thing - so makes sense to me - however; Has > > anyone done this???? what do you think??? should I have it > > compounded??? do all on here that take meds with SCD compound them??? > > I do all my other stuff but I didn't when they tried enetcort > > (steroid )at the beginning of SCD (which did nothing) part of what > > makes him still say " non-specific " inflammation on top of Celiac not > > Crohns like the 1st 2 GI's - > > I'm sort of excited to feel better (maybe) and scared of course - side > > affects can be maybe wired maybe sleepy doesn't sound like much of > > anything > > THOUGHTS??????????? > > thanks eileen > > >
Guest guest
Eileen I'd give Lexapro a try. I've discussed the connection between serotonin levels and digestive motility several times with my gastroenterologist, and done some reading on it. Your doctor is right. Did you know there are many experts who consider that we have a second nervous system in our digestive system? I used to take a very low dose of Zelnorm regularly (before it was pulled from the market) which worked by increasing serotonin levels, thus increasing peristalsis and digestive motility. Worked great for me, and I miss it. I'm actually considering purchasing Zelnorm from overseas sources and continuing to take a low dose. I'm currently taking Xanax, which is an anti-anxiety med. on an as- needed basis, so about 3 times a week. Haven't tried Lexapro. There are lots of antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds, so if Lexapro doesn't seem to work, you can try others until you find one that is just right. Some days I think the Xanax does help my digestive motility, even though it is more for keeping panic attacks from developing and not specifically boosting serotonin. Other days, I seem to see a connection between increased constipation and taking a Xanax the day before. I've finally decided that there are other things going on with my body systems. and I can't blame the Xanax for my poor digestive motility. My experience with digestive motility is that some days are going to be bad, no matter what I eat. I can eat SCD foods one day with no problem and have decent-enough digestive motility and yet a week later, eating the same foods, I'll get an upper GI symptom flare, and suffer increased constipation for a few days. I'm assuming it's just the way my body works now, following some cycle that isn't apparent to me. But I know I have neurological deterioration, and a very poor metabolism at the cellular level, which probably explains all of it. Kim M. AsI understand it, that's the primary one that developed, evolutionarily speaking. All very fascinating. Kim, This is an important subject for us all, since stress is a strong aggravator of many of our conditions. Do you have any links to share on this, about seratonin and digestion. Guest guest
thank you Kim -I feel better with people who have been on for years supporting me - hope you can get it back for some relief and you're right doc just said that yesterday too - I blame me or try to figure out every change when it probably would have happened anyway -I'm doing the best I can and hopefully this will help eileen > > > > ok not much time but have endoscopy/colonoscopy 10/15 to see what > has > > changed if anything - doc knows I'm anti-meds and so is he but > after > > discussing all with me doc and hubby - I THINK I've opened up > enough to > > stay SCD (minus the miralax) I need as a prep > > and I'm going to try Lexapro (an antidepressant) as serratonin > helps > > with the intestinal nerves is what I got from doc -95% of it is in > the > > gut and this was found out after using it on people for depression > etc - > > gut-brain connection thing - so makes sense to me - however; Has > > anyone done this???? what do you think??? should I have it > > compounded??? do all on here that take meds with SCD compound > them??? > > I do all my other stuff but I didn't when they tried enetcort > > (steroid )at the beginning of SCD (which did nothing) part of what > > makes him still say " non-specific " inflammation on top of Celiac > not > > Crohns like the 1st 2 GI's - > > I'm sort of excited to feel better (maybe) and scared of course - > side > > affects can be maybe wired maybe sleepy doesn't sound like much of > > anything > > THOUGHTS??????????? > > thanks eileen > > >
Guest guest
actually I don't use Lexapro any more so I don't know the dosage. There are different antidepressants for how your body chemically responds. I have been taking Paroxetine which is the $4 subscription generic for Paxil. I've tried about 6 different happy pills (they now give them to menopausal women). The one to avoid is EFEXOR- bad, bad, bad. I had terrible thoughts and I was mean and didn't even realize it. Now one of my employees is being awful and denies it might be from the efexor. With Lexapro I had no side effects really and I didn't notice a problem with my UC. I think I stopped it because I heard Efexor makes you loose weight and I'd been on Prednizone for so long I was fat. I'll tell you, being happier makes me feel better. Actually, I don't think Lexapro made me stay awake but when one of these drugs made me stay awake, it was only until I got used to them. I totally was wired on Wellbutrin so don't take that one. I hope I was of some assistance. Guest guest
I keep reading about everyone losing weight. I hate to say I'm jealous but I'm working my butt to loose weight after a year on Prednizone. So Eileen, enjoy being happy!
