I would tell the hostess about my special dietary needs and if she can't meet them inform her politely that I will bring my own food. Maybe they will serve it to you on a plate like everyone else so it's not such a big deal.

The only items I have found are raisins, peanuts in their own shells and pork skins with only pork skins and salt as the ingredients. Most convenient stores have either Tropicana Pure Premium OJ or Welch's 100% Grape Juice (diluted with water) to round it out. One store actually had a block of colby jack cheese. I ate that with pork skins and Welch's grape juice. It was very expensive though and I think I wound up wasting the cheese I didn't use. It would be nice if convenient stores would get the little 1 oz. packs of colby-jack or cheddar cheese and sale the individually like my Wal Mart does.

So far that's it for me.

I do have a question, if one is going to a function in your honor and they know that you eat scd, but do not have anything for you, besides taking my food how can you tell the hostess that you are not able to eat what they ahve prepared for you?The other question, if one is on the road and need to stop and get something at a small food mart, what can one eat there. I have chosen fruit, but at a loss on what else? I draw a blank on what to buy.JAHSCD 4 yearshttp://www.glutenfr eeeugene. org/xl2/scd. html

I agree with Misty's suggestions about how to handle food at your

hostess' home - you can make suggestions about the foods you are able

to eat - or simply offer to bring one or two dishes over that can also

be shared with others. Even though she is inviting you, " for you " , it

will probably help her feel less stress if you help with the food since

it is so important for you. Most people just don't know where to start.

I say things like, " Since I'm on this crazy diet and wouldn't dream of

trying to make you prepare special food for me, why don't you let me

bring over a couple of dishes that are safe for me that can also be

shared by the other guests. "

As far as convenience stores -- the best solution for me is that any

time I leave the house and there is the remotest chance I'll be gone

more than a couple of hours - I pack a snack. I almost always have a

small cooler in the car with cheese, banana or apple, brownies, a

bottle of water, hard-boiled egg, sliced meat, trail mix (nuts &

raisins), etc. It's just so much easier than freaking out in a 7-11

because I'm starving and everything in the story is risky (or something

I won't like).

I've been stuck being forced to eat things that I knew were probably

not safe or marginally safe a couple of times - and not only did I

suffer in the next day or two - but I didn't get full because I was

afraid to eat too much.

JAH,

Enzymedica makes some of the best enzymes on the market. If the

product you are using does not work you might check out some of their

other products.Good luck, in making your dietary changes work for you

on the run. This is/was the most challenging for me.
