Your system becomes much more sensitized on the early-middle healing stages of SCD. Which means you can target the particular problem. Guest guest
Mara, I love the SCD diet and have been on it for more than 9 months now. But, I have questions including the one you just wrote about. I was wondering why my system is so hyper-sensitive to so many foods! And it wasn’t prior to SCD. Can you explain this to me in more detail? Can you reference anything from Ellen on this? It’s a phenomenon that I’d like to understand. Sometimes I’m afraid that my system will always remain hyper-sensitive no that I’ve committed to this diet and it worries me. Guest guest
Donna I'm not Mara, but just wanted to mention the fact that many of us find our digestions just don't work the same after we've developed a disorder, even when we achieve healing or remission from the disease. It's also true that once we've switched to SCD, and detoxed, we become a lot more sensitive to the additives and synthetic chemicals used in most commercially processed foods. So we can't go back -- and maybe we shouldn't go back. I'll do some research and find out if this phenomenon has a name, and more about the process involved. I have functional digestive disorders, so can't go back. Maybe it was easier for me to accept this and not get frustrated that I can no longer eat some of the foods I used to, even if SCD-legal. But I am glad my body is more sensitive to additives and synthetic chemicals; then I know I'm eating something my body now considers toxic. Kim M. Guest guest
One possibility: When we eliminate foods, then reintroduce them, we can experience an acute reaction. Here's how it works: When we regularly feed the body things that bother it, it reacts chronically and low-grade: headaches, muscle pains, sadness 24/7, whatever. When we remove the troublesome food and give our body a chance to clear all the residue out and heal a bit, then reintroduce the food, we will often have an acute reaction: migraine, stabbing sensations, depression. In either case, the body is saying, " OUCH! STOP THAT! " In the first case, the victim (your body) progressively loses oomph and energy to protest loudly and clearly and to fight back, so the response is weaker, smaller, more whimpery. So, you may well have been reacting previously, but just didn't notice or didn't make a connection between the chronic, low-grade issues and particular foods. (Because the chronic, low-grade are inherently constant, this is common.) A good way to reintro foods is: Day 1: 1 tsp Day 2: None Day 3: 2 tsp Day 4: None Day 5: If no issues, use the food freely. (If very sensitive/ill, consider continuing a slow, methodical increase.) Baden > > I was wondering why my system is so hyper-sensitive to so many foods! And it wasn't prior to SCD. Guest guest
Hi Baden, I remember the initial stage oh so well. I was completely exhausted… And I agree wholeheartedly that I was eating some foods pre SCD that were slowly bothering my system but may not have been aware of it. Regards the SCD diet, I’ve shared that the intro diet didn’t work but it took me a while to figure it out. The colonoscopy was an eye opener and then a posting re. GAPS related to the very slow intro to dairy. I think that dairy was my biggest problem. I had wrongly assumed that the yogurt as prepared SCD and DCCC was alright for me…and the cheesecake. I have since been slowly introducing the yogurt and DCCC. Part of this is me..I’m a tortoise that takes very slow steps but eventually I do get it! Just can’t give up! Thanks again for all your help and postings. Guest guest
Just to confirm what has been said about the body reacting to foods we reintroduce. I mistakenly ate a small quantity of flour last weekend (on fish - it was very small since I scraped off most). The next day I had liquid stools and exzema behind the ear. The day after the same thing. Later that day I was sitting in my colleague's office when all of a sudden I felt depressed. It just took me over. Then disappeared within an hour and now I am fine. Incredible. Why don't people, ie basically doctors, know about this? CD diagnosed Sept 2006 SCD since Oct 2006 No meds No symptoms (except when I do silly things) J’utilise la version gratuite de SPAMfighter pour utilisateurs privés.Jusqu’à présent SPAMfighter a bloqué 1546 courriels spam et m’a fait gagner du temps.Nous avons en ce moment 5.5 millions d’utilisateurs de par le monde entier. Guest guest
Hi Donna: Did you ever receive my reply to your lactose q? I had put forth the possibility of casein-intolerance, very real for many of us but usually resolvable through specific steps. The message was #12331 and can be located via a 'message number' search in the message archives. I think we all experienced challenges figuring things out at the beginning. Guest guest
Hi ,Thanks for sharing your story. It is good to hear about SCD success stories. One question for you. how long did it take on the SCD to get over your symptoms?thanks, Crohn's: Since July 2005SCD: Since Sept 2008Meds: Nothing yetTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Saturday, November 1, 2008 6:49:47 PMSubject: Re: Re: Re: Introduction of foods question Just to confirm what has been said about the body reacting to foods we reintroduce. Guest guest
With regard to getting over the symptoms. The tweaks and occasional pain in the ileum area continued for many months, but I think probably in part because I was still eating illegals without knowing it. The D disappeared pretty quickly, but the loose stools (just in the morning) continued for a year and a half and proved the most difficult to get rid of, but then my intestines had only known D for more then 30 years. There was much resistance from them, in the form of cramps, before they would function normally. Hope this helps.
