Guest guest
I have recurrent ear issues since I am a baby. Since the SCD the ear issues have driven me crazy and have gotten worse. I believe this is due to improper gut ecology. Dr McBride from the GAPS book has a section about " ear infections and glue ear " I found this -extremely- enlightening! She has some suggestions for home remedies; I plan on trying this following suggestion as soon as I can tolerate a probiotic again; Open a capsule of probiotic and put some of the powder on the tongue before going to sleep (make sure teeth are cleaned and no drinking/ eating will be done) The probiotic will work on the flora in the mouth and passages helping the situation in the ears as well. She also has an olive oil/garlic prep I can post that too if you want. She suggests to also stay in doors and stay warm and drink plenty of warm fluids. As for ear candling- it's a great thing but must be done properly!! Jodi SCD 13 months Crohn's/Colitis
Guest guest
Jody, Just FYI, long hair dachshund, with their big, floppy ears and long fur, are prone to thick black wax build ups in their ears. I bought some special pads for cleaning Shadow's and Sunny's ears when we first got them. Not long ago, I found those pads... and threw them out. In the ten years the Duo have been on a raw diet, Shadow has had one ear-issue, when he got a weed seed lodged in one ear. Garlic oil (homemade) worked pretty well on ears. Bit stinky, but.... Pressed garlic and honey also helps a raw throat. (I remember one time when one of our manic friends who is lovable, but nutty, had a cold at our house party. He was moaning about his raw throat. I fed him garlic and honey. (Personally, I think it inspires a profound desire to get well in order to avoid the next dose!) Our friend moaned, " It'd make a great glaze for a ham... but I'm not a ham... " at which point, the entire party broke down laughing hysterically. Because our friend IS a ham.... I'm dealing with some ear issues myself right now. I've just started CPAP therapy for my Complex Sleep Apnea and my ears are definitely unsure they like this business of air being piped in every night. I will say that a neti pot, or the Nasaline gadget I'm using are awfully good for sinus congestion. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
