Guest guest
Hi Donna You know we all go through similar things ups and downs and we all react to the diet in different ways while we heal. Have you ever tried to drip your yogurt? I can only tolerate it that way. I’d love to try this but am hesitant. Donna, SCD does NOT advocate the use of Lact-Aid TABLETS and heavy cream. The tablets are taken when you eat the lactose-containing item, and, in theory, break down the lactose in your gut. The Lact-Aid (or Lacteeze, as available in the US) drops are mixed with the cream (which, due to its high fat content, is naturally low in lactose, anyway), and then given at least 24 hours to do their thing, which is break down the lactose. SHaking the product a couple of times during the 24 hours is helpful. Thus, the lactose is gone before you use the product. Elaine did NOT recommend making your own lactose hydrolyzed milk, incidentally, only the cream in small amounts, as a creamer. I can tolerate the LH cream. I could not tolerate Motrin, which is tableted using lactose, of all things! Motrin (which I was prescribed for post surgical pain relief, gave me diarrhea and gut cramps. Just imagine trying to get out of bed and run for the toilet with a 24 " incision across your gut! — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Thanks Suzanne. I make the yogurt with half and half and I do drip the yogurt. Even with that I had to take a few steps back and introduce the yogurt very slowly. Same thing for the DCCC and cheese in general. I just assumed that because of the very limited lactose these foods weren’t an issue. Donna UC From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of suzjordan@...
