Guest guest
Autumn, Falling hair or a lot of hair in a hair brush is sometimes a sign of Biotin depletion. If mine begins to fall, I take it as a sign that I may be getting slightly inflamed, and malabsorbing. I often go back to the foods I ate when I began the SCD. I also add Co Enzyme B-complex by Country Life Products. I do this because biotin is a co factor of B vitamins, and I fear I am not absorbing B-12 and the other B's at that time, and (in theory) this B-Complex will bypass many absorption issues. When I don't do this major fatigue kicks in about a week later, so it seems to work. Brittle hair that is not caused by hair products, is a clue that the fatty acids are depleted. Like B vitamin issues, this can cause fatigue, and mental symptoms if it goes on for a period of time. You could try taking more fish oils, and any other oil supplements, like Evening Primrose. I blame these for the fact that my hair almost stopped growing, became thin and weak when I crashed and got so crazy before I was Dx'd. I hope this helps you out. Once again, I must say I am not a dietitian, only a Crohnie who works in the health food industry, and enjoys good health. Guest guest
I apologize in advance that I missed the beginning of this thread, but I lost a lot of hair when starting SCD. I became concerned and found out that discontinuing the grains is enough to do it......many on Atkins also lose a lot of hair for the first 90 days or so. I had also had a baby but the hair loss was persisting much past the baby recommendations...... Everything eventually returned to normal.......so anyway if the person asking the question is very new to SCD and ate a lot of grains prior......it could also just be a normal adjusting of the body to a grain free existance and will not be a long term problem. Of course this should not be viewed as medical advice and it is always wise to ask your physician. HTH Michele
