Guest guest
Well, I'm still early in the diet, inflamed and with active UC. Things are changing for the better, but very slowly. I have a follow-up appointment on 7-Nov, and I'll certainly ask then about it, though this is 2 weeks away... As I mentioned in my previous post, though, this is one of the 1st things that 2 different doctors put me on, which gives me some level of confidence. A quick Google search reveals mainly positive results endorsing glutamine as a mucosal- healing / anti-inflammatory supplement for IBD. As is often repeated here, however, were all different and may react differently to different things. Sorry, Eileen, I don't think I'm being very helpful! -Sal UC since May-07 SCD since Oct-08 > > Sheila on pecanbread sent an article saying it can cause inflammation > in Crohns/UC people and is beneficial in autistic people - have you > heard that?? has Hoffman Instit.mentioned it ??? or could you check??? > I mean I feel well right now - so I THINK I'm not inflammed and wasn't > before this (via scopes) but don't want to make myself inflammed > either!!! > thanks eileen > 9 months > I will show the article to my comp. phar and see what he says - he > recommended it >

Guest guest
felt like doc gave impression of them being separate - interesting- thanks - sheila mentioned bone broth for glucosamine rather than glutamine - i've made the chicken broth/soup for intro etc but how do i do beef broth - same?? raw meat in?? or take my leftover bones from my steak each night??? thanks eileen > >you know what?? Guest guest
I've been making the chicken broth/soup since intro - really before that, since it was recommended by others. I try to drink a cup a day - very tasty stuff, especially with chicken feet! I have to say that I have used bones from a leftover roast chicken before, and the broth came out quite awful - maybe I just didn't let it simmer long enough... As to beef broth, I haven't made it with leftover steak bones. So far I've only tried it once, made with short ribs and a beef knuckle. We let it simmer for a long time - read that you have to let it go longer than chicken broth - 12-18 hours, I think. I think they sell beef soup bones in the grocery store - we ordered them in bulk since we have a freezer downstairs. Here's a bit of a long article on the virtues of bone broth: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0ISW/is_259-260/ai_n10299306/pg_1? tag=artBody;col1 It has some recipes at the end. Enjoy! -Sal > > >you know what?? Guest guest
Eileen (et al)- Had my appointment with doc today and asked about L-Glutamine as an anti-inflammatory / intestinal healer vs. precursor to nitric oxide, which is an inflammatory / damager. He actually had me discontinue it, given where my inflammation is - said with my UC where it is, the L-Glutamine is not likely to reach it to have the intended effect. He did acknowledge the nitric oxide connection, but like so many things we discuss here, there's no hard and fast rule. If it's helping, or at least not hindering, it should be OK.
