Guest guest
Hi Caroline, I wouldn't. If they are not willing to put it in a letter for you, that raises big red flags. I wonder if there is some step in the process where they do add something but it is less than 2% so they are not required to disclose it but afraid that if it made your son sick they would be liable if they sent you a letter stating that there was nothing added. This really just proves Elaine's point about getting something in writing from the company on company letterhead. Apparently, they are a lot more willing to state things as fact that they are either unsure of or know are not true in an email than on paper.Take care, Kim H. husband, , CD 1999 SCD 2002 I really would like to find a source of pecan butter I can buy. So far, they're the only place I've found, and their prices seemed reasonable. What do you guys think? Can I trust them? Do you think they're just to lazy to mail a letter? Guest guest
It's kinda odd Kim. They are just as liable for things they say in their e-mails as they are with a letter in writing with their letterhead. I'm not a computer expert, but I assume it's pretty easy to prove someone is the actual source of an e-mail. Thanks for your input. I'll continue my search. Caroline > > Hi Caroline, > I wouldn't. Guest guest
Hi Caroline, Have you looked at Futter's Nut Butters? (Their site is http://www.futtersnutbutters.com/index.html). I've been thinking about ordering from them for a while. They have a big selection of different nut butters, including pecan. And they make the claim on their site that the butters are just ground nuts. No salt, sugar, or preservatives. From their site: " Our ingredients are just the highest quality nuts and seeds,-nothing more, nothing less! If it says " Pecan " " Macadamia " etc. that's what it is - no fillers or other nuts! Our Walnut butter is just walnuts, our Pecan is just pecans. " And if you're afraid of roasted, they offer raw varieties too. The only real drawback I see is that the shipping is high due to the fact that they ship in heavy glass jars. I haven't ordered from them myself yet but I'm thinking about it. Guest guest
Thank you so, so much for this link about Futter's Nut Butters! I have a little one with a peanut allergy, and at first we just eliminated all nuts because of cross contamination. But I have been wanting to look for a peanut free nut butter company so we can have other nut butters again. He used to eat cashew butter, almond butter, all the time with no problems. But the peanut factor had prevented us from having this for a while. Thanks!
Guest guest
I'm so glad that link helped you out! Having a peanut allergy can make things so difficult. If you decide to place and order with them let us know how it goes. Good luck! Christy > > Thank you so, so much for this link about Futter's Nut Butters! Guest guest
I just did! I actually called to verify some stuff, because their website says that the cashews and pumpkin seeds come to them already roasted, and those are roasted in a facility that has peanuts. So, for other people'e reference, avoid the cashew butter and pumpkin seed butter if you are super sensitive or want to be extra cautious. However, the organic raw cashews are fine. The almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, and macadamias all come to them straight from the source, and then they do the processing there, so those are good. I just ordered almond and hazelnut butters, and some plain almonds. They seem super conscientious! Great to know about their business! Thanks!Sonya
Guest guest
Thanks Christy. I called them and spoke to the owner, who was as nice as can be and who agreed to send me a letter attesting to the fact that nothing is added, no fillers, binders, sweeteners, nothing but nuts goes into their product. Once I get the letter I'll probably order a case from them. If you order 11 jars, the 12th jar is free. Someone on the pecanbread list also posted a link to another site which also has pure pecan butter: http://www.rejuvenative.com/pecan-butter.htm They are a bit more expensive, but I'm also going to ask them for a letter also. Guest guest
That's great info! I'm going to have to place an order myself. Hazelnut butter! Mmmmm! Christy > > I just did! Guest guest
I'm so glad that they are going to send you the written letter. I would think more than twice about ordering from a company that wouldn't provide that if it was requested. And a discount for ordering in bulk, too! I'm just not sure that I can eat that much nut butter. I plan to make a folder in our files here and upload such letters for people to check at their leisure and decide which products they choose to use. Note to all: if you have a physical letter which you have received from a company and which you feel validates a product, please send me a scan of the letter, and I'll upload it to our files here. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

Guest guest
Will do Marilyn. That would be a very helpful file.
