Guest guest
I have both RA and Fibromyalgia. Are you still after some info on their connection? Guest guest
Hi Suzie, Yes definitely. The only connection I can come up with is that having chronic pain and illness leads to Fibro in many people. > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > > > I was just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in addition to my RA. > > I > > > > > was wondering how many people here have both? > > > > > > > > > > Thanks, > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi , Aparently once you have one autoimmune disease you are at a higher risk of getting another. Fibromyalgia (FM)is not an autoimmune disease and it not a form of arthritis, however it does tend to couple some autoimmune diseases such as RA. It is believed to be caused by an autoimmune disease which triggers a disturbance in the central nervous system leading to an oversensitivity to low levels of pain. I have two books which are really good on it - they are: 'Fibromyalgia: An Essential Guide for Patients and their families' by J Wallace and Janice Brock Wallace and 'The Autoimmune Connection' by Rita Baron-Faust and Jill P Buyon. I recommend you get a look at them if you can. The biggest problem i have found with my FM is problem sleeping. When my RA is not under control, my FM gets really bad and I cant sleep because my joints are hurting all night and my muscles spasm all night - no restful sleep! So, i have tried sleeping tablets (medical and natural) which are apparently meant to help the FM significantly. I found them hard to handle as i would be drowsy at work the next day. I do need to ensure i get lots of sleep in order to keep my FM under control. Take care and nice talking to you Suzie > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > > > > > I was just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in addition to > my RA. > > > I > > > > > > was wondering how many people here have both? > > > > > > > > > > > > Thanks, > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Suzie, Well, I've got the RA and Ulcerative Colitis, plus Costochondritis in addition to the FM. I am going to be seeing a specialist soon who is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitative Medicine. My Rheummy referred me to her when he could find nothing abnormal in my blood work that was giving me the rib pain and the FM. She does rehab, accupuncture, nutrition, etc. and looks at you like a whole person, I think what you would call a Complimentary Physician, so I am very excited to see her! She will also prescribe medication to help me sleep. The weird thing is I am in almost total remission with my RA through Humira so I do not have the two together. I am a 35 year old who is like an old car, you fix one thing on me and something else breaks! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I was just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in addition to > > my RA. > > > > I > > > > > > > was wondering how many people here have both? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Thanks, > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
