Yeehaa!!!

This is definitely going to be a good New year. gained 5+ pounds in

the past 4 months and grew 2 inches. Lungs clear, nose a bit congested but

not bad, continue saline nose spray to help. His FEV1 was 1.23 and the FVC

1.42 with the % at 86 (I take it this is good, ?) He is still

learning how to correctly do this so I know it will continue to improve. I

know has been doing so good and it was great to have the doctor

confirm this. His stomach felt good, no problems there. Color good,

activity good. He will probably get the yearly x-rays next visit in May.

OH, and after a hypertonic saline neb, he actually coughed and spit up a

culture. It was tiny but none the less he coughed it up and spit it in the

cup, I was sort of caught off a bit as it was sort of a yellowish color not

white or clear. But since this was the first culture since the bronc 18

months ago, the nurse pointed out this could be normal color for him and now

we should watch for change in color, increase or thickening. It was fairly

thin, as opposed to real thick and sticky. I can't tell you how excited I

was. Even the doctor expressed pleasure over how he is doing, as we were

beginning to think that things were taking a turn toward constant lung

problems for a couple years. He said that for now it seems the CF is under

control and not causing any problems. The doctor said that what we are

doing must be helping keep him healthy and was slightly embarrassed it

seemed when I said, " well he does have a good doctor taking care of him

too " . I think I will send a card to the clinic, just expressing my

gratitude. Really if it weren't for having a doctor that didn't mind being

aggressive and on top of things, I believe would have continued to get

sick. The doctor put on Tobi 18 months ago eventhough did not

culture psuedo, and I feel because of that he has been able to get back to

being healthy.
