Guest guest
I have been on the SCD diet for about 4 months and tried eating yogurt in the beginning but I have not been able to tolerate it well. I started taking Acidophilus probiotics about 3 weeks ago and seem to be tolerating it well. How much acidophilus should I be taking each day if I am not eating any yogurt? Right now I am taking one pill (3.0 billion cells per capsule) per day. Should I increase it to 2 pills per day? When is the best time to take the probiotic - before or after meals? Washington, D.C. But make sure you are not having an adverse reaction. > When is > the best time to take the probiotic - before or after meals? Myself, I haven't noticed a difference. But other people say that it is individual - so you might want to test out different times on yourself to see what works better. Guest guest
I take an acidophilus supplement as well; my body doesn't tolerate yogurt or dairy. For the first two years on SCD I took one capsule (3 billion CFU) per day, and found it helped on many levels. But by the 3rd year on SCD my body started reacting to the acidophilus, so I cut back. My maintenance dose is now one capsule every 3 to 4 days, unless I'm taking antibiotics when I go back to one a day. Everyone has slightly different needs, so you'll have pay attention to your body's signals. One acidophilus capsule a day provides plenty of beneficial bacteria. Some people prefer more, some less. I take acidophilus at the end of a meal, to avoid an immune response. But some people find they prefer to take it before a meal, when the stomach is empty. The " experts " are on both sides too, although most state that taking probiotics on an empty stomach means more of the bacteria will make it into the intestinal tract (less enzyme activity). My feeling, based on my body's reactions, is that it's better to take a supplement in small doses less often to avoid an immune response so I'll end up getting benefit from the supplement. So it all depends on your body's reactions. Kim M.
