Guest guest
About your daughter's dairy intolerance... 1. A dairy intolerance may be to lactose or to casein. If 's sensitivity is to lactose only, then all the SCD dairy should be just fine for her. 2. The author of GAPS suggests those of us with cognitive/behavioural manifestations remove all dairy initially, as the casein, too, is a common problem for us. Removing dairy for awhile allows the gut to heal. 3. After the gut has healed somewhat, most of us can then tolerate casein fine, and can enjoy lactose-free dairy (per SCD) just fine. 4. One Mama on the GAPS list has a daughter whose throat would close (not anaphalaxis, though, a different thing) with dairy. After removing dairy for a sufficient period, she introduced whey via the GAPS protocol --and specifically, a tiny bit mixed with bone broth. Her daughter finally had zero reaction. (A tiny bit not mixed with bone broth did produce a reaction.) 5. The author of GAPS notes that, pre-healing, most of us would show endless intolerances on tests. She recommends we not bother testing and just do the program and heal, which will eliminate most (if not all) intolerances. For example, a test showed me sensitive to almonds, bananas, etc. Eliminating them did not help me. Doing the GAPS protocol with those included has brought me the best health of my life. (One would not, of course, consume anything one is actually anaphalactic to, though.) Baden > food intolerance tests came back as egg whites, dairy, peanuts, pineapple and almonds...if someone has dairy as a food intolerance, can she have the cheeses, homemade yogurt and butter? It's hard enough to be on this diet but then these intolerances even make it harder to cook/bake for her.
