Why do you dread it? Has it been a long time since the last one?

Ever since I discovered the pills, the last two I had have been the

easiest ever. Once I used visicol - once something else. My

insurance didn't reduce their price - but it was worth it, no vile

nauseating drink to down - etc. The easiest two I ever had.

Some dread is natural - the fast, etc, but it is very easy to handle

drinking

down chicken soup or bone broths - and I found those pills made a huge

difference in how I felt beforehand - speaking as someone who nearly

fainted once before a colonoscopy from dehydration and taking my system.

Mara,

How did you get the pills? I went hunting for them before my surgery and

could not find anything. My surgeon was only familiar with the drink.

(Which, btw, wasn't that bad... I left out their flavoring packet with

its illegals.)

I did find that having plenty of electrolyte drink and broth available

really helped, as did having a heater on in the bathroom. I was FREEZING!

Even with warm broth and e-fluid.

The first time it was a freebie from my doc - he had it in stock -

since the pharma company had given him samples. So the second time

they gave me a prescription for the drink, but I made a point to ask

for pills. And they gave me a prescription - it was pre-made out

(just needed a few details added, like my name, etc), so evidently

they use those as well, just not as frequently and not as the first

choice.

Ask a gastro doc about them. But they're prescription.

I've only seen the premixed ones - and it's always been a trial for me

to get them down.

Whereas a pill you just have to swallow.

Haven't had that problem yet, AFAICR. But it's worth it to have

freshly laundered bathmats on the bathroom floor, IMO.

Would it surprise you to find out that I plan to avoid a gastro unless

they insist? <g> (Although, in seriousness, since the Big C can go

to the gut from the uterus -- which the labs say it didn't, but they'll

want to keep an eye on it -- I may be in for more of this than I ever

wanted to consider.)

I cheated. I borrowed the washable pee pads we carry when we travel with

Shadow and Sunny. Put a long one on the bed so I could lie down if I

wanted, but not risk soiling the bed, and laid the others end-to-end into

the bathroom to protect the carpet.

I remember Carol Frilegh talking about this at some point. I should

of paid more attention and asked some questions as this is totally

applicable to me.

I didn't say anything about fasting. I said pills.

Look at last evening's mail - conversation between me and

Marilyn.

Carol talked about colonic irrigation.

Sorry, I am confused. I thought there was some 10 day method of

broths and such before a colonoscopy. Don't remember the details.

Wondering what triggered me to make you think you were talking about

that. Anyway, thanks for the info.

Don't know about Mara, but I have heard t, who used to be the Webmistress

of the BTVC site, say that she would begin drinking broth and juices

about 48 hours before the scheduled colonoscopy. Then, when, 24 hours

before the test, she had to start the clean out, her system was already

mostly clear, and so the clean-out was far less stressful. In addition,

with less to get rid of, it made sure that her gut was completely clean

and her doctor could get a good view of everything the first time. (She

knew some folks who didn't follow directions, and who had to come back a

second time.... bleh!)

Thanks Marilyn,

It was something like that- I just remember the easy foods started

like 10 days before the colonoscopy and like a couple of days before

it was just broth etc. Did this still call for the cleaning out prep?

Or was the Webmistress able to avoid it? I think this is what makes

me very sick before this procedure! Last attempt a couple of years

ago to prep me for a colonoscopy ended up in a hospitalization due to

that liquid prep!! ARGH! No colonoscopy was done.

I wanted to say thank you for all your guidance and support as it

means so much to me. You have certainly been a key factor on my road

to recovery. Thank you so much for your time, effort and patience.

Have fun, stay safe and may the force be with you!!!
