Guest guest
Kathy You can start juicing fruits and vegetables at any time after the intro. diet, depending on your symptoms. But it's very important to dilute significantly, especially for the first year or two you're on SCD. By that I mean use a ratio of at least 4 to 1 -- 1 cup of juice to 4 cups water. Remember that the juice you make is composed of a lot of individual fruits or vegetables, so it will be dense with nutrients, too much for a compromised digestion to handle. But also pay attention to your body's signals. Start slowly and cautiously. For example, I still dilute my juices 5 to 1, even after 5 years on SCD. My body just doesn't tolerate juices any stronger. And it doesn't tolerate vegetable juices at all (hives and respiratory distress), so I only juice fruits and have to be careful with how much I drink in one day. So go slowly, dilute a lot, and experiment with blends to determine what your body is ready for at this stage of your healing. Kim M. Guest guest
Well, I have trouble with multivitamins; in fact I get similar immune responses to multivitamins as I do vegetable juices. Hives and respiratory distress. I'm not sure if it's the dosage size or tthe fact that a multivitamin contains multiple ingredients. Or I just have a cranky liver. I did a lot of experimenting and have found that my body will accept a children's multivitamin (from Kirkman Labs) once a week without a major reaction. With other supplements that I need more often (like magnesium, potassium, B12), I've switched to single-ingredient doses. I've given up on vegetable juices; never could find a combination that worked or diluted enough to get it past my upper GI. It's all trial and error, once you have a malfunctioning digestive system. I never know how my body will tolerate supplements, medications or food. Kim M.
