Debbie,

File is made from the sassafras leaf. I couldn't find a reference in

either the BTVC book or website, but since file is used as a

thickener, I presume it is illegal.

Rootbeer is made from the root bark of the sassafras tree, hence the name.

Google " recipe + rootbeer " for more info.
